No thread for silly questions so...first time driving a diesel and the dealer explained about the spark plug light and how you wait until it goes off before starting the engine. Thing is I haven't seen it in the 2 weeks I have been driving the car. I'm guessing that modern diesels are fine unless it's very cold but thought I would check. Normally you get to see that all lights are working before you start the car but presumably since the spark plug light only comes on at this point if you need to wait there is no facility to check it is working (in terms of the actual light working that is)?

Thats what I'm wondering. Should I be seeing it even if it's just for a second?

    Have you seen this one?

The dealer say spark plug or glow plug?
I'm open to correction but all diesels use glow plugs.

Yes sorry glow plug light. I'm bound to get the exact terminology wrong but it's a diesel so..

Glowplug... you may not see it unless the glowplug is actually heating which it probably not this time of year, I have a pajero which more or less needs glowplug every time it starts you wait till light goes out if it lights, bmw 320d have hardly ever seen the glowplug symbol light up

Could be that high temperatures exclude the glow plugs? It wouldn't be unheard of, but I don't know how the ECU on the Focus works.

If the car drives all right, just keep an eye on it...if the light doesn't come on when the temperatures go down (should be a matter of a month or so now), then you need to pay a visit to the dealer :)

When I had my diesel C-Max, even on the coldest mornings it only appeared for a fraction of a second, and at other times you never saw it at all.

Always came on in my 04 mondeo even though you could start it straight away before it went out.

What year/engine is the focus op?

1.6 tdci. Taking it through France in 2 weeks so might drop it into my mechanic to be safe.
