getting back into exercise after broken ankle

Hi, my broken ankle is almost healed (1 week to go) and I have been cleared to do something low impact like an exercise bike. I was an outdoor exercise person before the break and am not a member of a gym, and no gyms do short term memberships it seems.
I have been looking into hiring an exercise bike or elliptical trainer for a month or so until I can start exercising outdoors again. Has anyone any experience of these hire companies? Is the equipment gym standard or more home standard. 4 weeks hire ranges from €60-€100. I might be better off buying some home equipment outright? Also would you go for an elliptical trainer or bike in my circumstances? Both are low impact I think?
Also any other suggestions for excercise coming out of an injury like this would be appreciated. Thanks :)

I broke my foot a couple of years ago and took up swimming and yoga fora bit. Running was still sore a year later and can still be sore today. The doc in the hospital said I didn't need Physio but went about six months later and would recommend it. He gave me a wobble board and some exercises that definitely helped.

Extended walking without a rest was tough for a good while but it got better. Was doing some Insanity (more recently) for a while but it took its toll on my foot and ankles so doing some stationary body weight stuff now. (Squats, push-ups, knee lifts, pull ups, plank, back raises, tricep dips, lunges)

I wouldn't be into gyms or paying too much. Try the free stuff at home first. See how you go. Local community pool is cheap and went to a buddist yoga class which was also a cheaper option.
