Gluing paper to metal

    Hey everyone,

I built a guitar pedal, & need to put a finish on it.

I'm going for a newspaper collage-style look, & need to glue newspaper to the pedal's metal body.

I did a first layer with PVA, but that has just peeled off!

What would be the best way to glue the paper to it permanently?

    Thanks for any help!!

You could coat it in epoxy resin then lay your paper clippings on it leave it set for about 3 hours and do another coat over the paper then after another 3 hours another coat this will give a clear hard finish that will protect the paper if you want you can fine sand any brush marks to give a perfect polished finish.

    Thanks for the advice!

I was hoping to do it on the cheap, with materials around the house.

I have a spray can of paint for metal, would that provide a good enough base to glue the paper on?

Spray paint is a very thin liquid and the paper might soak it up, you could try a clear varnish or a can of lacquer.

I plan to do several coats of scrap newspaper before I do the final collage, so I wouldn't mind if some leaked through.

Unless it's too thin to form a solid base?

PVA should have worked, unless it's a particularly thin version (kids' school glue?). You'd be better using a decoupage version ... Mod Podge, Anita's, Aleene's, or one of those slightly thicker ones.

btw, when you've the last layer on, apply a coat or two of pva glue on top to act as a sealant.
