I have a drink Driving conviction and will be getting my licence back soon. I know my insurance will be very expensive because of this and i don't want to be ringing company after company getting told no.

should i go to a broker is that what they do find me the best quote? Do brokers charge much commission?

Age, sex, location will all factor into how much it'll be, along with your type of car, etc. Ring one of the larger ones, and see just how much they'll charge, and then check the brokers.

Start with brokers and see what tey come up with. As for commission, I went through a broker and it was cheaper than going direct with the same company.

Good brokers to try are Cullen and Quoteme.ie. They both will quote and may be able to offer something that doesn't require a mortgage. Quinn used to quote in these cases also so Liberty may be worth a shot.
    Good luck.

Go back to your original insurer who insured you at the time of the incident.

Most other companies will deny you coverage initially, and if you want to push it you can get 3 companies to quote you by appealing but it's a lot of hassle.

Your original insurer will quote you but will need full details of the conviction.

Your insurance will be dear as you'll have no 'no claims' bonus and a conviction loading and possibly a claims loading if you were in an accident at the time of the incident.

It'll take about 4 years to get back to near normal levels of insurance charges but you will alway have to admit to having a conviction which may preclude you from many insurers.

I think brokers are the way to go most of the main insurance companies won't want to know you. Pick up the phone book and just ring as many as you can over an hour or two. Might be demoralizing with many of them not accepting you but you stand to save a considerable amount if you can find the right brokers for you.

Just about all the direct insurers will ask if you have ever been convicted of a road traffic offence where as some of the brokers will ask if you have been convicted in the last 5 years. It may not be as long as you think before your insurance is no longer loaded, again you just have to find the right company for you.

ARB should quote you through a Broker. Your insurer at the time of the conviction will have to quote you also.

It won't be cheap. Determinants on the premium other then whats noted previously will be
    1.how far over limit
    2.if an accident occured
3.what was the monetary penalty and how long off the road

Brokers vary greatly on what fee they charge, just ask.

I would always go throgh a broker for insurance in any case. Pays off when there is a claim.

Ok thanks folks no I didnt have an accident and I was not caught driving the car. I was sitting in the car with the engine running. Im over 25. I would pay double what a my quote would be without a conviction any more than that I wouldnt bother.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't more than that, at least for the first couple of years. Sure shop around anyway, it's all you can do. Good luck.
