It was "The Hands" ad - wonder why it was considered a premier?

Honda, the case of how the mighty have fallen. Remember when they had VTEC, and Civic VTis and then Type-Rs, and so on? They used to fit the Civic with independent rear suspension long before Ford put independent rear suspension into its Civic competitor, the Focus. Now Honda only fits the Civic with independent rear suspension for the North American and Eastern Asian markets (and maybe not any more with the new model). They've fallen so far from their 80s and 90s heyday. I cannot think of a single reason to purchase a Honda over a Ford, Volkswagen or Mazda, especially as they are so expensive compared to the competition. Granted, they've very reliable, but Hyundai and Kia are also reliable, as are most Mazdas, Fords and Toyotas.

The 'hands' advertisement was fantastic, though, all they need to do now is put the same effort into producing a decent, fun to drive, affordable, reliable, family car.

It should be remembered that all the interesting 80s and 90s Hondas in Ireland were sold new in Japan and then shipped over to us a few years later. Honda has never really sold that much here in Ireland.
Honda has its fingers in so many pies like motorcycles etc that they're not as vulnerable as most other motor manufacturers

They still build Civic Type R's, rumours of a new S2000 and a new NSX coming.
I don't see them as falling at all.

Every 6th car I see is either a Civic or an Accord, these things I notice as I drive a civic. Before Honda I would say are VW,BMW,Audi,Ford,Toyota. I base this on my drive to work everyday from Dublin 5 to Dublin 4.

The civic lost something when it went from double wishbone to McPherson strut suspension but its still a fine car by normal standards.

I don't know, current model Accord and especially Civic are a pretty rare sight down here anyways.

Same here, even the previous generation 06+ model, I live in a town of around 9000 and I see only 5 or 6 of these, there's 2 current model civics.

    Honda have registered
    539 civic
    128 jazz
    103 CRV
    71 accord
    16 insight
    0 FR-V

So far this year 862 cars.

Actually your wrong there. The early to late 80's ford escorts had fully independent suspension before Honda introduced it into the Civic.

Also it's only the Civic that has lost rear independent suspension. The accord still has it and is fine car. Still though I agree that they are not where they were 12 to 15 years ago with those fantastic vtec engines and double wishbone suspension.

Either do I. I don't know if they can go much lower.

The newer civic type r we get here is based on the hatchback civic and is nothing special imo.
