Hi there, last week I passed my fitness in Collins barracks in Cork. I'm delighted to have passed as being in the army is all I've ever wanted to do. The only thing I'm worried about is I uave a medical in a week or two and I wear glasses. I know there's no ban on glasses or anything but how strict is the eye test? I'm not colour blind and I generally don't wear my glasses a huge amount but I need them for driving and couldn't watch tv without them. Any info or opinions greatly appriciated lads.

I know of a couple of people who wear glasses full time and passed their medicals, someone please correct me if I’m wrong on this but there is two eyesight requirements: a standard vision and a corrected too vision, they aren't that strict when it come to people wearing glasses along with the big thing being color blindness that they concentrate more on. (Again don’t quote me on this) but it’s something like 23/8 in one eye and 25/9 in the other, if you look through the DF questions thread you’ll find the correct numbers there. Like when I went in for my annul eye check-up (I wear glasses full-time) I had written the numbers down and showed them to my opticianist, he said that I’d pass given that I wasn't color blind and that your eye sight would have to be quite poor not to meet those requirements. So don’t sweat it by the sounds of it your eye sight isn't that bad at all, best if luck with the medicals man and I hope to see ya in September! I have of PT’s this upcoming Wednesday :D
