Gears seizing while driving

My gears have become almost impossible to change while driving. Once the engine was switched off, they change smoothly with the clutch.

Any ideas? I assume I'll need work done but I wonder is there anything that can be done to temporarily alleviate the problem? Of course it's a bank holiday weekend and of course I'm in the middle of nowhere!

    You need a new clutch.

Check the oil for the hydraulics that do the clutch as sounds like clutch isnt working either worn out or oil pressure for hydraics is broken .Look for oil leak under car .If oil pours out then forget it the car will get stuck in middle for no where
I was driving a BMW 2.5 liter and the clutch master servo burst and oil went on the floor of the car just beside the BMW main dealer who fixxes the car . I pushed it into forecourt and the next day it was fixed. This clutch master cylinder of that type of BMW was known issue

If there is no oil major issues possible temp fix
Find a person who can show you how to double de clutch the old fashioned way they used in the past to change gears made before the days of the syncromesh

My Mother when i was a kid had a mini car in the 1960s.The sysncro mesh broke so changing gear was hard unless rpm of engine and gears were nearly exactly the same .My dad taught her to double de clutch and she drove car like that for about a year To fix ssyrcro mesh cost too much . Anyway she decided to sell car and young guy arrived .She took it for spin and then offered to let him drive it .He coud not drive it .My mother just said all you do to drive it is double de clutch .He was clearly so embarrassed a women could out do him he bought the car.

What make of car what age how many kilometers
My 1998 fiat Brovo SX 1400cc when i got it in 2010 had 40,000 kilometers nothing really for its age (genuine miles I knew all the owners all low Mileage users ) .The clutch was funny and after a 2000 kilometers packed in .The fiats from this 1998 era had faulty clutch plates installed and they went south around 40,000 kilometers .The replacement clutch was not faulty so should do 150,000 kilometers no sweat

If you go online your car might show if there is known issue and possible fix if its small like spring needs more tension
