2011 Fiat 500 - engine oil

According to my driver's manual it says for a Fiat 500 petrol engine I should top up engine oil with "Petronas Lubricants" which are produced for the Fiat range.

Unfortunately I haven't seen that brand anywhere and at my local garage they sold me "Q8" v5 which is apparently fine for any car newer than 2005 - thing is the label shows it's for BMW/VW etc - is it ok to top up with that or not?

Does anyone know where I can get Petronas brand in Dublin?

About the BMW/VW, the same oil can be ok for several types of cars.
Check the specs on the bottle against what is recommended for your car.

Q8 Formula M Long Life SAE 5W-40 (year-round) is what Q8 themselves recommend.

My fiats always had a sticker under the bonnet to use selenia oils which I believe aren't great.

I would not put anything except the correct spec low ash ACEA C3 into the car.
Fiat garages will have this, even when I got my car serviced in a main Toyota garage they did not have this spec and purchased the Selenia oil and gave me the leftover.

I have Q8 'V' Long Life 5W-30 ACEA C3

Each web site recommends something different; the manual says it should be 5W-40 ACEA C3 grade so now I'm totally confused. If I top up with what I've got will it damage the engine?

What you need is a 5w40 "C3" spec oil. I have castrol magnatec 5w40 C3 at work and it has all fiat specification on it.

Even though spec's match your best to stick with high quality oils like Castrol, Liqui Moly, Elf or Mobil 1.
