watch Wild diamond win on his 3rd race over hurdles at newton abbot at 3.20 on attheraces. Price is currently 10-1. Johnson on board instead of the Hobbs horse, Vaughan on form, only horse at track, showed promise when out for a spin at 50's last time. Today is his day

Quiet in here, ground still going be on soft side for Galway just hasn't had chance to dry out.

Might have something for later from english track.

My galway day 6 tips in full are up too.

Stuccodor @ 10/3 looks a decent bet to me in the 3.10. I think there is still more improvement to come and I think he will be good enough to contest Group 3 races. That last handicap he won off a mark of 97 is working out to be a decent little race. The second horse Fiesolana won three on the bounce after that race, a big handicap at the Curragh and a pair of fillies Group 3 races and is now rated 110. Ground is no problem at all, has won over this trip before possibly wants a little further but with the heavy ground I think the trip will play to his strengths.

Welds other horse in the race is 12/1 into 7/2 though so thats obviously a worry!

I flagged up Ninjago earlier this week for the stewards cup. He kept some good company last yr (ran close against excess knowledge/just the judge as a 2yr old) and gave moviesta 5lbs when running him close this season. The form is rock solid. He's now the pricewise selection but still represents a great ew bet IMO. If your looking for the group horse lurking in the handicap, I reckon
Ninjago is him in today's stewards cup.
Need luck in running but he's drawn in
the middle and if you want someone to
carry your cash at goodwood, you could
do worse than the Hannon/Hughes combo.

    Dinkum diamond,stewards cup took 16/1 in powers,paying 5 places.

Can anybody tell me how on earth Integral is 5/1 to win the Falmouth, ridiculous price should be double that at least.

That looks very short for the Nassau based on her known form and today's opposition. I'd prefer ambivalent at the prices.

Sky lantern and just the judge are doubtful stayers, Hot snap has something to prove after the guineas.

Integral was by all accounts extremely impressive the last day and will definitely stay - and probably improve for it. She's a fast improving horse and deserves her place in the field.

Not sure if I'd be a backer at 5/1, the form has taken a few knocks, but wouldn't put anyone off either.

A lot of people think she's very good.

hughes very confident about sky lanterns chances
I couldnt resist the 5/2 on that (Betfred) with money
back as a free bet if second
it was too good an offer

I can't decide about stuccodor myself
had a big bet on this lto over 7f when it was very impressive
over 10f at leop the time before, looked like its class won last
    time out over 7f
I'm convinced this horse is better over further and Im worried
about today as its a better race, 7f, wide draw and as high
as 4s in a place along with the support for the stablemate which
is more or less that same price

Like elidor at goodwood also, 9s a very safe looking ew bet in that

As I was away for 6 weeks can anybody tell me what Andrew Baldings record is with first time out 2yr olds this season.

I wonder if Tryfix is around can he give us a pointer towards the stamina of Sky Lantern whether she will stay or not?? 2/1 looks a huge price if she will improve for the step up.

Limited time and on phone so quick selections

    Good 2:05

Chooseday 33/1 looks a bit of value back over preferred 6f with g.lee up today

    1 pt win 33/1

    Stewards Cup

going with 3 here in Face the Problem ,who looks ready for a big run, Hoof It class above these if on form and tiddlywinks, which is gut feeling that he’s ready For a big run.

1pt win face the problem 25/1

    1 pt win HoofIt 18/1

    1pt win tiddlywinks 66/1

I've a double done with stoccodor and sharp crisp air in the 5:25.

But with him drifting in the market and all the support for northen rocket is a worry. I might just do a reverse forecast with both welds horses too.

It's a day for RF, as Ive done a small RF on both Mullins horses in the 3:45 for the craic.

Another one that caught the eye is jembatt 9/1 in the 4:20 who has form on soft/heavy conditions and is 12lbs lower then last winning rating.

Richard Hughes seems to be very confident about Sky Lantern's stamina:

Champion Flat jockey Richard Hughes talks you through his best rides at Glorious Goodwood on Saturday

THE Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes (3.15) looks a wonderful race but I am riding a wonderful filly who I think is going to love tackling the stiffest stamina test of her career.

I have always said Sky Lantern needs a mile and a quarter and today she gets it. She has been superb over a mile, winning the 1,000 Guineas and Coronation already this season, but I’m convinced she’ll relish an extra two furlongs.

As a two-year-old she showed she had the stamina to get a mile in America and my opinion is it will be easier to ride her over today’s distance. The ground isn’t going to be a problem, and although she was beaten at Goodwood last year, I don’t think the track will be a problem either.

This will be her fifth start of the season but she appears to be thriving on racing. The Falmouth Stakes was more like a piece of work as she only came off the bridle in the last two furlongs. She’s at her best when she gets the chance to quicken off a good, even gallop, and hopefully that will be the case here.

A stall 13 draw isn’t great but I’m very confident about my filly’s chance and expect her to win again. Just The Judge, who should also improve for 1m2f, is the main danger.

I've had a decent ew punt on Hot Snap got some of the 9/1 yesterday. Thought that was pretty big considering she beat Sky Lantern easily in the Nell Gywn when still abit green. Step up in trip is going to suit as she is a half sister to Midday won this race 3 times for this yard. Her flop when 5/2 fav for the Guineas was down to the very fast ground and apparently connections said she didnt handle the dip at Newmarket. She has been giving a nice break since then and stable is in really good form at the moment. Really think she is worth at punt to return to the form she showed first time out this season.

Burwaaz or Humidor for me in the Stewards

j wonder had no start, looks a cracking horse thou as miles clear of 3rd and won despite awful start.

Jim McGrath doesn't like the look of Hot Snap in the parade ring. He didn't like the look of her before the 1000 Guineas either and she ran like a drain in that race.

Anyone know much about trainer Brendan Duke. Trained the winner of the last in Galway but he's someone I dont know much about.

How come Focussed is owned by Jim Bolger but not trained by him?

norther rock wins beating pintura and stuccodor
    money was spot on
the distance stuccodor travelled in comparison going
wide the whole way round made all the difference imo
made up so much ground in the straight

I thiught Buick was brilliant there. He was up where he needed to be with Sky Lantern, and was able to close the gap, which finished off SL.

Reminds of a few years ago when Kinane closed off Murtagh on a horse I cant rememebr the name of.

I honestly thought he was going to pull him up. He was about 3 lengths off the second last horse and looked behind him at one stage! Thought something was up!

Never really got a clear run. Got into a pocket behind the front 3 and couldnt get out. Went for a gap at 2 out but didnt have the kick to go through. Buick on Winsili veered a little and Hughsie got squeezed. Not nice to see any race pan out like that. Couldnt say where he would have finished if he got a clear run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,351 ✭✭✭✭Harry Angstrom

Murtagh keeps things simple. That's why he's such a great jockey. You'll rarely see him in a pocket and you'll rarely see him lying too far out of his ground. I remember a few years back when he rode a stack of Group One winners for Aidan O'Brien at Royal Ascot - no heroics, no bullsh!t, no trying to be clever. Hughes and Spencer could learn a lot from the man.
