calves weanlings or yearlings ?

    Advice needed . Im thinking of getting cattle . Im in the process of geting a herd no and looking for info on what breed and age to go for someting hardy that i can out winter also a lad was saying if i get calves to get a good milking goat have any of you done this ? Apparently there great to have around calves

    If you are going out wintering I get weanlings. Bucket fed weanlings are your bet starting off as less risk attached. Are you intending to finish or to sell as forward stores. Year and a halfs can often be value depending on weight and age however it will take a while to put a system in place that suits you.

    I would not get hung up about breed it is what will make you money.

    The only thing to add to this is make sure and get strong weanlings so you have less issues with sick animals then if outwintering.
