Bike choice

I have a Giant Cypress City and I find it is a great bike, extremely comfortable, sturdy etc. etc. I use it for day touring with friends on occasions, short cycles to village and touring on bye-roads that are not very suitable for my roadbike but nonetheless very scenic and enjoyable. I have covered distances of greater than 100km on this bike and feel as good as after a cycle on my roadbike, albeit at a different pace etc. I have read posts that advise against a bike with a suspension fork, given that it adds weight etc. - I agree that it was/is not a necessary element for me but neither a feature that would rule out the bike for me either. I discovered the Giant Cypress first when, along with some friends, we rented bikes in Westport to cycle the Greenway to Achill and I have not looked back since. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for reply.
The Giant cypress city sounds like a good bike.

What do you think of the cypress I posted above, it's not the city, just cypres

Oh really, didnt know that. Thought they were 2 totally different bikes

If u had choice between giant cypress and giant escape 3 which one would you go for ?

As Bikerbhoy says, same bike with rear carrier and mudguards. You should really test cycle both bikes, assuming you have narrowed your choice to those two. Different bikes for different people, preferences vary, at the end of the day, it is you who must to be happy with your choice and you should make that choice after careful study etc. etc.

I've narrowed down my choice to 3 bikes. I cycled these 3 bikes today but im still bloody undecided.

    The 3 bikes are :

    > Giant escape 2

    > Giant escape 3

    > Trex 7.1 FX

Any thoughts on which of these to pick ?

They are pretty much the same. Giant escape 2. I like the colour.

The escape 2 is a lower spec but there not much in it, otherwise.

Lower spec than the trex yeah ?
If so, what things are the lower spec ?

Sorry I meant the escape 3 is a lower spec. the other two I could find no real difference.

I was looking at the Giant Escape 3 and the Trek 7.2 for similar purposes. I was advised to consider the Ridgeback Velocity, which offers a bit more bang for your buck apparently. The tyres are better on the Velocity than the other two. Other than that I don't know what the differences are.

A new model of the Trek 7.2 is due in the next month.

I wouldn't get the front suspension fork. It would slow you down, and have little effect on the comfort of the ride. It absorbs shocks to the front wheel, but that's not going to be a big deal on roads anyway.

Hi very new to cycling and looking to invest in a bike for perhaps some fitness training and just commuting.
As far as fitness goes I wont be doing any crazy cycles probably 50km tops.
Have a limited budget of about 500e so been using adverts.
A cyclocross was suggested to me, would this be the best option?
    Thanks in advance

Bewaaaaaaaare. CX bikes are often sold as all things to all men. But they're more expensive than the equivalent road bike and often come with cantilever brakes.

If you do get a cyclocross bike and you have no intention of getting into cross then get one with toad gearing and mini-vee or disc brakes.

Try not to blow your bike to work scheme on a bike that you'll outgrow if you get into cycling.

Well the work scheme thing ain't a prob. In college at the min, going to buy something 2nd hand on adverts I think.

    Options so fair are:
    Planet X uncle John
    Lapierre Auducio 200
    Boardman mx road bike

looking at a few Felt Z and F types too
