I've just seen a number of crayfish in a stream within Citywest. They look like the native white clawed crayfish but I'm surprised to see them in such a built up area. It's great to see that the water quality has improved enough to allow them.

Not a great photo, from a phone and obviously underwater but you can see one on the top right and one on the bottom left.

Got some better pics of them recently. There's a large amount of them, I'd say we spotted 10 or more last Friday.

As long as 35 years ago we used to catch them in the camac down as far as the paper mill

It's not far from the Camac so it looks like they're still there.

Yep in Finland. Very nice. However in West Australia lives the Maron or giant yabbie. Nearly as big as a lobster. Delicously sweet.

They're a protected species in Ireland so don't eat them. In England they're trying to start eating the invasive signal crayfish.

I don't know about Finland, but in Sweden, the vast majority of crayfish on sale are imported. There are locally caught ones available in season (August mainly) but they're very expensive.

Huge appetite for them in Sweden. IKEA had a crayfest at Ballymun this year. all you can eat for 20 euro. I had them in Lakeland Finland in the season which is August. Much vodka and schnapps too.
