Entry to Veterinary Nursing for FETAC applicants in AIT is listed as MAN/ONE/- which means that you compete against other FETAC applicants for a resreved number of places. So it is unlikely that you will receive an offer as the quota of places will have been offered and it is usually oversubscribed. To set your mind at rest ring AIT Admissions Office.

Did you meet the requirements? Distinctions, biology and maths modules etc

I applied as a mature student with 6 distinctions 1 merit 2passes but didnt get in. I have relevant work experience completed science subjects at higher level but all this counts for squat.

Everybody is competeing together and fetac people are based on the top 8 distinctions including compulsory modules to get in. So you could say its nigh on impossible to get in as there are so many wanting to get in with top marks. The course places are nearly gone before the CAO have put the calculator down and pressed 'send'

AIT give preference to mature applicants who have chemistry as 1/6 of the first year is chemistry. That's what they told me in an email. Also you need 400 points from your Animal care L 5 which is 8 distinctions. Unfortunately I did my animal care course in Monaghan IT and they don't do maths. They say it's an option but it wasn't when I was there 2 years ago. Now it looks as if I will have to try and go to Cavan IT next year and do the whole bloody course again.:mad::mad::mad:

You could also consider repeating the Leaving Cert. You could do it in a year and there are more places for Leaving Cert than FETAC applicants on the veterinary nursing courses. Just make sure to check you have met the subject requirements for the course(s) you are interested in.

I heard today of a girl who did the level 5 with me who only got a merit in biology and as we didn't do maths didn't even have that module and she was offered a place this year. Yet I had 7 distinctions and 1 merit but that wasn't good enough. Now I am doing the maths in VTOS and I will have to get a distinction to get the 400 points required. And as I am an actual mature student ( i'm in my late 40's ) I don't have the time to keep redoing course after course. The most annoying thing is that she has deferred this year and she doesn't even want to do vet nursing, her mother is more or less forcing her to do it. She always wanted to do art.:mad::mad::mad:
