Tyre Question

I've gotten a puncture on my racer, it's the first one I've had too.

Went to the bike shop and got a Slime 700 19/25 size tube for my 700x23c tyre.

    Is that too big?

I've put it on the wheel and it seems to be bulging out over the rim around where you pump it up.

Any chance this will work itself out or have I to get a new tube?

Not the wrong size. You just have the tyre incorrectly seated on the rim. Deflate it most of the way, push the valve up into the tyre until the tyre is properly seated on the rim and reinflate.

Cheers, that's looking much better now.

I'd a puncture the other day. When I took the tube off to have a look it had a small incision on the side that sits on the wheel. The rim tape was pretty worn and the holes where the spokes are seemed to be peaking through in spots so I put on a new roll and got the Slime tube so hopefully that'll be that.

I thought I had it sorted but during the week I felt a bit of a bump in the tyre when I was out cycling, did about 80km in total. Meant to have a look at it this afternoon but when I was eating my breakfast I heard a big pffffffft from my bike as the tube burst! It was one of those Slime tubes too and it had a fairly big hole in it.

I had a set of those tires on a couple of bikes and found them to be absolutely brutal for punctures and flats.

Meanwhile, sounds like you've pinched the tube, ie you have the tube trapped between the tyre and the rim and the pressure popped it.

I agree I have had bad experiences with a number of Conti Ultra tires in particular with sidewall blow outs. They are not the best in my opinion.
