Speaking as a total novice, I think it's a tiler that would put it up, as there's no stone masonery involved (my brother is a stone mason). We got it done last year & it looks fab. My partner did most of the work - installing the stove, new hearth, new hearthstone but I think he got a tiler to put up the stonework if I remember correctly.

my 2 cents worth is, often the "stone" supplier (bradstone, etc) will recommend a person to install it,they should have numbers for the lads that do it full-time.

My own personal taste would be,if one were to clad, use real stone, e.g. Liscannor,or as you are down that way,Valentia slate- the thing about the fake stone is that (personal opinion)it doesn't age well and if it spalls(bits break off) it looks cheap and tacky.

You will be looking at it every day,so why not go with something that ages much better, and should you decide to sell,it would be something that could add value to the house.

The price would be more expensive, but still would not be prohibitive-many stone suppliers are doing great deals these days.
