Car Insurance Renewal

    Hello all.

My car insurance renewal is in 2 weeks and i was wondering if any of you know of a cheap car insurance company or two out there as there are so many.

AXA sent me out the renewal letter with a higher quote than what i was paying last year but they have an option 2 that is a lot cheaper @ €523.92 seems like a third party fire and theft.

I did get a quote from No-Nonsense.ie for €376.16 but it says before you pay them.... Have you ever had any criminal record... I had an endorsement 29 years ago so i'm sure even that long ago they will probably not insure me for that price, will call them tomorrow just to see what they say.

I drive a small mitsubishi colt gl 1999 1.3, i have 5 years no claims bonus and no penalty points and aged 44. Is there any cheap insurance places that are reasonable ?.

    Thanks

    Zenno

This question gets asked around here nearly every day. There really is no answer to it as the cost of insurance is different for everyone depending on personal circumstances not just the car you are insuring. Car insurance is not issued from a fixed menu so what anyone else here pays has little or no relevance to how much it may cost you. All you can do is ring around the various insurance companies as there is no short cut to seeking the best cover at the cheapest price.

Good stuff, ok, i'll just have to put in a few hours tomorrow ringing around so.

Ring plenty of brokers too so that they can do some of the legwork for you also. Some of them can be cheaper than directly going to the insurance company as brokers can bulk buy policies at a reduced cost.

The headache i am finding every year is the endorsement i had 29 years ago haunting me with most car insurance places, Why would they still use this against me seeing that it was so very long ago. I never thought a thing so old could still affect a person just for car insurance.

123.ie last year told me... it doesn't matter if it was 80 years ago we cannot insure you, i think that's crazy. Anyway i'll try a few brokers tomorrow cause i cannot get a quote online from any of them because they say.... All Drivers should:
be free of any convictions(Motoring Offences or Criminal Convictions).

Because they will use any excuse to increase price. Ring around for best quote and if one is cheaper tell the next you have a quote for x price can they better it.

Sickening to know that some countries have a limit on compulsary disclosure of 5 years.

Do you have to inform them of an endorsement that is that old? I thought it was only something like 5 years after they expire?

Unlike the previous accidents question (usually the last 3 or 5 years), the convictions question is generally open ended. This means you need to inform insurers of ANY conviction (motoring related or not) no matter how far back.

Having said this, very few will take convictions over 10 years in to consideration for the quote unless it was very serious in nature

Always ring AXA as they always increase the renewal sent by post automatically in the hope you don't question it (as many don't & they make the extra money)...
My postal renewal was up by 100 euro, rang & showed other quotes I got & the brought it back down...Can pay to shop around esp if you have standard irish car...onedirect.ie / chill.ie / 123.ie + Ins brokers?

Well after days of calling brokers and car insurance companies i called no-nonsense.ie again and explained to them about my 25 or so year old endorsement and the guy said not to worry about that as it is so old.

I think they are only concerned with more serious convictions and pending ones, so i got my car insurance for €375.16 not bad for a provisional irish. 123.ie were charging me over €900 for third party fire & theft so i think i done ok :)
