(Not sure if there's already a thread on this, so feel free to delete this if needed, mods.)

So what did we think of tonight's opening episode, featuring Janet Street Porter, Heidi Range, Katy Brand and Jo Wood?
I love Janet Street Porter..love how she gives as good as she gets!
I reckon Katy will go far.

Other contestants to feature include: Les Dennis, Joe Calzaghe, Shane Lynch, John Thomson, Ade Edmondson, Shappi Korshandi, Denise Black, Brian Capron, amongst others.

Same here. Doesn't look like it's repeated either.

Janet Street Porter's stew looked like a piece of leather on a plate of vomit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,781 ✭✭✭clappyhappy

I would say there is no pleasing Janet Street Porter. Couldn't handle her in the kitchen. I thought Jo Wood should have gone, but I knew they wouldn't get rid of her. Heidi seemed to have more talent.

Glad it's Katy & Janet going through. Looking forward to next week.

Bleh I missed most of Thursday's episode and all of Friday's!
So from reading here, Janet and Katy got through..that's great, they deserved to go through based on what I saw on Wednesday.
    Bring on next week!

Missed the first week, but see it this week, glad Ade go through.

Raging I missed Janet in week one though, I'd say she took no prisoners!

Love this programme. Shane Lynch was fab last week!
This week Matthew Hoggard, Les Dennis and some rapper called Speech!! She is great but a bit cocky IMO. Did have Joe Calzaghe but he got the boot last night!

Really enjoying this show. Missed the first week. Shane Lynch is doing great, definitely going to be cheering him on!

    JSP is kicking some butt

Still though, up for Shane, Ade and weirdly enough Les!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,230 ✭✭✭Merkin

I'm rooting for Shane as well, think he's got a natural flair for it and he seems modest as well. Can't stand Speech, she has to go! I also feel a little sorry for Les, seems like the whole process is giving him a real confidence boost. :)

There is something about Speech that I don't like. I can't put my finger on it just don't like her. Think Shane is great, there seems to be a natural talent there. Really rooting for him. I think Janet is the one to watch though.

Hmm me too. I think she is incredibly cocky so she doesn't have the most humble demeanor. Hope she burns the grub for the food critics :D

Janet is kinda funny, but she's such a whinger...

    C'mon Shane!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,821 ✭✭✭fussyonion

Ugh that fish pie looked repulsive.
Glad Speech went-I didn't like her.
Shane's doing quite well, isn't he?
I'm glad Les is doing well too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,607 ✭✭✭Meauldsegosha

I was surprised at Speech going because I thought she was a favourite to John and Gregs. Delighted she went though. Fingers and toes crossed for Shane now. :-D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,781 ✭✭✭clappyhappy

Also glad speech went. I think Janet is too predictable with her food, always seems to be pies and stews, not much variety to her.
I think it's between Brian and Shane.

I've recorded them so I can have a Masterchef binge at the weekend! Glad Speech has been knocked out of the competition. I'm definitely rooting for Shane!

Oops we spoiled it for you then, sorry!

I don't mind! Will avoid the thread when we get to finals week though! :) I'm hoping Shane has it in the bag.

Poor Shane, didn't quite pull off tonight, fingers crossed for him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 58,456 ✭✭✭✭ibarelycare

Ah gutted for Shane :( Gone on one bad performance. Thought he could win. Can't stand JSP. She's so negative and mouthy! Any of the guys to win, like them all. Think Les could do it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,607 ✭✭✭Meauldsegosha

Ah I'm so disappointed thought Shane would go all the way. Feel so sorry for him today was his only really bad performance. Still think Janet can win it but will be cheering for Brian now.

Shane made soup last night. Squash soup must be the easiest thing in the world to make. Definitely not masterchef quality.

Most of them made very simple dishes - fish pie, rice pudding, etc. Greg said that Shane's dish was his favourite of that task. Getting perfect bread done in that time was impressive. I was surprised to see him do soup but he had stood out in every other task up until then anyway.

Agree about JSP doing pies a lot. Although I admire her tough attitude, she needs to listen to Gregg and John regarding presentation!

    I hope Les does well.

It should not be about personalties, but food - however JSP does my head in.

I really really hate JSP. Shane is way better than I expected. Seems like a sound bloke too

I don't hate JSP, she doesn't half moan her arse off though.

I'm now backing Les and Ade, but I think it's between Janet and Brian.

JSP is like a spoiled child. Standing in the kitchen with her arms folded moaning about being told what to do. That chef (the big lad that did her sugar cages) had the patience of a saint!
I like everyone left except her. Les continues to surprise me

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,781 ✭✭✭clappyhappy

Two episodes left, who so you think will get the title from the three remaining.
As my previous prediction is now null and void (Shane & Brian) I think Janet could do.
Really it is down to Janet and Ade, I think the pressure will get to les tonight, although he had improved greatly.
    Prediction: Janet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,165 ✭✭✭stargazer 68

Between Ade and Janet I think. I think Janet could just sneak in there! Hope not! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,089 ✭✭✭✭P. Breathnach

It should be won with the best cheffing skills. I have no doubt that Janet is the best cook, but that's not quite the same thing. She is a strong contender, nevertheless.

I think many of us would like a winner who is also easy to like.

You know what, before today, if anybody had told me tha Eddie from Botom would win celebrity masterchchief, I would have assumed he would have to beat Greg Wallace's head in with a frying pan to do so....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,607 ✭✭✭Meauldsegosha

    Delighted Ade won :-D

Me too, thought his sea bass was an absolute triumph! Well deserved win for him! :)
