Hi bid on a small item on ebay .ie and won the item on the auction , 2 euro , I saw the seller then was from the same area as me so sent him a message asking if i could pick up the book from him ,
To this he flatly refuses to do so , stating that it has to be posted to me at a cost of an extra 10 euro , and that he doesnt permit items to be collected.

This evening I got notifiction from ebay that he has lodged a complaint re non payment ,?
I am prepared to pay for the item itself but not for the extra postage ,
Is he correct in this or is there something fishy going on ? , I now doubt whether he has the book at all .
    Anyone experience similar antics ?

As I see it, you have no right to being able to collect it, it's up to the seller and if he doesn't want to allow it, fair enough.

If you won the auction, you are obliged to pay the seller. When did you win?

The shipping cost would have been displayed on the listing, so you knew it when you bid and should made your decision to bid accordingly. Realistically you just need to pay up.

won the auction two days ago , seller contacted me and said he was away and he would get book dispatched to me , which leads me to believe that he hasnt even got the item .
Ive bought many things on ebay over the past few years and every seller ive come across has been very helpful , ive travelled to the uk picked up items and got couriers to pick up stuff for me , never had a bother,

This guy lives very close to me and I would have assumed that he would have been somewhat cooperative , but there are strange folks out there , even offered to meet on neutral ground and refuses .
The 10 euro charge for postage is not an issue as i wanted the book anyway , just thought his behaviour was strange,

If the €10 charge was listed when you bid and there was no collection option what's the issue?
I often sell on eBay and I don't allow people to call to my door for collection and I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to meet somewhere else and waste call credit texting or calling.
Donedeal or the likes is for that option not eBay.
You bid under the terms of postage so pay the man.

He didn't offer local pick up under shipping I assume so you have to pay the extra. He would be going against terms of sale if he were allow you to pick up.

Just double check the add from your email so nothing has changed,if he has selected the option 'buyers can collect from you' it will be clearly visible on his item page! if not sounds like you gotta pay, that's not saying your wrong and maybe ha has 'topped' up his postage for benefit:rolleyes:

All this can be avoided by sending a quick message before bidding. I've done it on the past with no issues.

10 euros sounds like a lot to post a book so I wonder if he doesn't want to lose the profit that he is making on the shipping?

Sounds like this is the case, many people in effect build in a reserve price by stating high postage, and ebay do not take a cut of the postage.

Some people just do not want to meet for whatever reason, wariness, shyness, hassle of having to commit to a time etc.

I got something on adverts from a lad very near me and offered to collect as I wanted it right away, saying meet wherever he wants. He insisted on posting, there was no postage charge to me, I was not trying to get it cheaper, just wanted to get it sooner and save HIM the cost of stamps and a jiffy bag.

In this case I probably would have offered an extra fiver to him if he allowed me to collect.

Tried to communicate with the guy , and offered to pay extra for the item so he wasnt out of pocket in any way , but no Joy ,
I understand ebays rules and reading them etc , just rekoned on common sense and cop on would prevail but alas no a hope .

He's probably wondering why this strange buyer is so insistent on meeting up to collect :P

Just pay the man as per the contract you agreed when you made your bid. Easy.

Some people are not keen on anybody calling to their door and I can understand that. Others, mainly from abroad definitely load the postage on small items to make a quick buck. Can you offer to collect the book at somewhere local - a hotel or garage assuming you know somebody working there.
