Hi, anyone here adapted a loader bucket so it could be picked up and used in the silage grab...would save an awful lot of messing on/off capers in winter time...have a tidy 4' grab, and was considering buying a cheap used bucket to adapt..for feeding meal principally...thanks...

my dad did soemthing simialr years ago when he used the bucket for feeding distillers nuts. no grab just an ordianly silage pike. he welded an extra bit onto the front so that the front of the bucket would fit over the prongs on the pike this also stopped the front of the bucket from moving. he then put a bracket on the frame to keep the bucket in place. was handy out.

we have a digger with a quick attache now so dont need a bucket on the tractor these days and the pike and bucket have gone been replaced.

if i was you i'd look to get a bucket wider then your grab. weld and extra lip on thtefront and put two channel irons under in. these can be used to keep the bucket from sliding over and back and also angle the outside to act to help locating the prongs. make sure there is support at the back of the bucket and if not the end of the prongs has to take the weight. you can use the grap to close on it to keep it in place, but woul dalso be worth putting in a bracket that can bolted to the fram in case you want to use the bucket with the grab open

farmer in my discussion group has done this. He got a bucket wider than this grab and he drilled out the holed for where the tines would go in so all he had to do was drive in the the bucket and close the grab. Dont know how well it worked though because if the holes started to wear or were too big you would loose your ration in the bucket

If he welded in some black pipe onto the floor of the bucket and around the holes he made that the tines could slot into, he would be on the pig's back ;)

Not a bad idea I guess. A few manufactures offering grabs/bucket combos now. Quick hitch on the loader and it's not a big deal to change.

Even with quick hitch its a pia constantly changing between the grab and bucket .

I know. A bit of thought reduces the amount of changes needed too.
