Aer Lingus - Sports/Musical Equipment?

Looking to book a guitar into the hold on an Aer Lingus regional flight, and happy enough to pay the €30. What I can't figure out is if the weight of the guitar is deducted from my 20kg baggage allowance, or does it have a weight allowance of it's own?

I'm not in Ireland atm, and tried calling reservations a few times yesterday, but couldn't get an answer.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure if it's the same, but I'm taking my bike DUB-LHR on EI on Monday, and after ringing reservations and paying €40 it's booked as 0 checked bags + 1 bicycle. Also outside Ireland here, I called reservations in the afternoon and had no issues getting through.

Not really the same situation, as I have a checked bag to bring as well, which has a limit of 20kgs - so I'm wondering if the weight of the guitar is deducted from that 20kgs, or if it has it's own weight allowance.

I got caught out before when I booked in 2 bags, paid the extra money for the 2nd bag, only to find out that I still had a max allowance of 20ks, and not 20kgs per bag!

    Booked a check-in suitcase, 20kg allowance(€20).
Then booked in a set of Golf Clubs, which has a seperate 15kgs allowance (€30). There is no option to select Musical Equipment, even though it's the same category.
Then had to get my Wife to call reservations, in Ireland (I'm abroad atm, and the number on their website for outside Ireland, didn't work), to change the booking description from Golf Clubs to Musical Equipment, just to be sure security don't throw a wobbler. No charge for that btw.

    All sorted :)

You need to book it as two bags with x amount of weight. Aer lingus are great and I've dragged my guitar all over with them. If you can get away with just hand luggage for yourself that would be easier. Guitar and hardcase weigh about 8kg. If you book two bags totalling 20. That leaves you 12kg. Prob what most people have in a case anyway
