Panasonic PVR Issues

Living in the border region - recently got a Panasonic DMR - HW320 (the updated version of the HW220). There doesn't seem to be any issue as regards recording of Saorview. However, there have been quite a few glitches, particularly in terms of recording films late at night. Yesterday, for example, it recorded the first 21 minutes of a film, took a 40 minute break and then recorded the last hour. On other occasions, it missed the start of the film before later proceeding to record the final 5-10 minutes.

There have also been a number of occasions when it has failed entirely as regards recording a programme. On the other hand, last week, I found a programme on my archive of recorded shows which I thought the machine had failed to record. Having watched it there and then, I noticed the next day that it was again missing from my programme archive. Any suggestions as to what exactly is going on would be much appreciated.

I have the HW220 model and had no such problems after nearly a year with hundreds of recordings.
For the partial recording, maybe you lost signal during high pressure.
For the others, if it was a series recording it will be stored with previous series recordings so may not be obvious to find or maybe you were looking in one of the tabbed categories rather than the ALL tab. The TABs can be confusing at first, if you watch something in the UNWATCEHD tab it will obviously disappear but will still be available in the ALL tab.
Also, if you record a weekly schedule rather than series record, the new weekly program will overwrite the previous one.

It takes a while to figure out these machines and requires close reading of the manual. But they work very well and reliably.

BTW, could you tell me if the detail program information is available for Saorview channels when you press the Information button ?

    Thanks Bridster007.

    1. In terms of the partial recordings, I doubt it’s due to a loss of signal during high pressure. On the days when I’ve had these problems, I’ve recorded programmes earlier in the evening without any issue. I actually did manage to record one film late at night but this was a while ago and I’ve had nothing but problems in that regard since then.
    2. I did have a theory that there might be some kind of signal reception crossover problem between the PVR and my Panasonic Vieira television but I’m not sure it plays out. Does this sound possible?
    3. I found the missing programme. For some reason, it’s not in the ALL Tab but it is with the rest of the programmes I recorded from that series.
    4. There is no detailed programme information available for the Saorview channels. I find this slightly strange as this is not the case with my Panasonic TV. When I use the Guide button on its remote, I can get a full programme synopsis but when I do the same with the PVR, I get nothing but the name of the programme.

Exactly the same issue with my Sony TV and Sony PVR. PVR has name of programme and nothing else while TV has full synopsis.

Disappointed to hear this. Although it records Saorview fine, even with series link, it is not Saorview approved . I was hoping the 2013 range would enable the full program data but obviously not. I'm in same situation as yourself. Nothing to be gained then by buying the 2013 model over the 2012 model which can still be got at a good price.

I have the same issue in regards to no details on the info button for Irish stations. What is the reason for this?

It doesn't do teletext either from all the SV channels.
It's explained somewhere else on these threads, some technical difference in implementation of Mheg5 data.
Panasonic say the box is not meant for the Irish market, even though Currys sell it here.

Other than that, it's a fantastic box

    Hi,

I just wanted to see if there was a Firmware update or anything that resolved this behaviour for the 2013 model. I am thinking of getting one, but would hold off if things like SV teletext on RTÉ or series link on FV and SV was missing.

    Thanks.

There won't be an update. It is not broken. It is not SV certified and even if it was both SV and FV certified that would not guarantee that both systems would work together.

BTW, series link does work on both.
