I'm connected to Efibre and would like to use my own modem as the F1000 signal is very weak in some rooms in my house. Has anybody replace the F1000 with their own modem, what settings have you used? Thanks in advance.

i hate the damn thing aswell, but, when i turned off

    WMM Automatic Power Save Delivery(APSD)

it helped wifi a bit, still not great, but i have better connectivity,

network security -- wmn, then disable it.

It'd be easier to just use a secondary AP vs replace it all together.

The new modem is a nightmare to work with, I tried bridging mode, and once I setup VDSL and ETHWAN in bridge mode the modem started rebooting on its own.

I used the following guide, once I got to step 8 the F1000 just kept rebooting

    1. Log into the efibre modem, disable NAT and in the broadband section, select the VDSL line item and set mode to Bridging
    2. In the same page, select the ETHER line item and set mode to Bridging
    3. Disable Wireless and log out, power off the modem
    4. Log into your netgear and change the IP to 10.0.0.1 and re-start
    5. Re-access the netgear login page on the new IP and log in
    6. Connect a network cable from Port 1 on the efibre modem to the WAN port on the Netgear
7, In the WAN settings on the netgear modem, set it to PPPoE and use the username eircom@eircom.net and password broadband1 - Save the settings and power off the netgear
    8. Power on the efibre modem, wait for the DSL to stabilize and the Internet light to go green (Ethernet light should be off)
    9. Once efibre modem is up and running as above, power on the netgear, and note the Ethernet light on the efibre modem should be green (If its not green, replace the network cable between the 2 modems
    10. The netgear (depending on model) should show a tick or an (i) light on the front, this should light up green to indicate connection. Once green, connect your pc or wifi device to the netgear and test for internet connection.

I have a proper Cisco router (EA4500) and use the F1000 as a modem only. I disabled the wireless and changed the WAN to bridge mode. When I am ready with the changes on the F1000 I do not restart the router because otherwise it sticks in a boot loop. On my Cisco router I set up DHCP for WAN and connect it to any ethernet port on the F1000.

Works fine, hopefully there will be a also workaround on the boot loop soon.

You can use your own modem. I have replaced both the Eircom & Vodafone modem so far.

Customer support for both wikll give you all the settings, but they neglect to tell you to set the WAN VLAN ID to 10. This is essential.

Use the eircom@eircom.net & broadband1 as usual but you must set the wan vlan id also.

Now you wont have to use bridge mode any longer. I used the DrayTek Vigor 2850 VDSL Modem which has excellent customer support i might add.

But what to replace it with? Any vectoring/profiles compatible VDSL2 modems that have 802.11AC?? I cant seem to find much...

I used the DrayTek Vigor 2850 VDSL Modem. Works brilliantly, this was done as the client wanted VPN access and the standard modem did not accomplish. Draytek was a breeze

    Hi folks,
I just got my efibre set up this morning.
Yes its quick, yes general surfing is a breeze...but as you have found the F1000 is a cheap piece of kit and I want to go back to my trusty Netgear dgnd3700, dual band modem router.
I tried just switching them out but I cannot connect to the netgear page after I do - limited connectivity on all the available networks.
I've been reading that 'bridging' (using it as a modem only and hard wiring between the two - is that right?) the F1000 leads to all sorts of issues.

The engineer that set up the F1000 was a nice chap but he hadn't a clue when I started asking if the F1000 was dual band or not.

Platinums - how did you go about swapping them out mate, does the process by DonJose above work?
I'll leave the F1000 running for now, I won't even go adding my Samsung TV to its list of devices, I'll just watch Breaking Bad off a usb!!!
If you don't mind I'll pm you my post too.
    Cheers in advance.

I just got in eFibre today (having used the TP-Link TD-8616 as a modem into my OpenWRT AP) having trouble with this F1000 job, even with the DMZ zone set it doesnt pass through ports. so im looking for an alternative. So far the best i can find is this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ZyXEL-P-871M-VDSL2-Point-Modem/dp/B001E9UUF6/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1382396901&sr=1-1

If anybody can find anything cheaper i would love to know :)

Modem needs to be compatible with vectoring, as Eircom are supposed to be enabling it in the near future.

    Yep, thats it.

And a DGND3700 couldnt work as its ADSL2 not VDSL2.

Just give it a month or two and Zyxel will fix the bridging issues, then you can bridge to the netgear with stability and away you go.

Having a lot of trouble with Eircom Fibre router. Is this Draytek modem easy to set up? Is there much involved with regard to settings? I dread the thought of having to ask eircom for information on settings etc.

use the settings above on the draytek.

if buying a draytek MAKE SURE IT IS THE DELIGHT/DRAY OS version as these do work on efibre in ireland

the other non delight versions do not support vectoring thus wont work.
