Do tyre prices fluctuate much? Reason I ask is I got 2 new Bridgestones (215/55/R16 97W) on my car 5 weeks ago, paid €136 each, got a blow out over the weekend on one of the old tyres and went into the same shop to price the same tyre again, €165..... €30 in 5 weeks is some inflation!

When I challenged the guy on it he said the price of rubber can vary greatly and the very best he could do was €145, when I saw he could drop it €20 in seconds I just said thanks but no thanks.

From experience with the same size tyre originally fitted to my last car (06 Passat), they are a harder-to-get, non-standard size that thus is a lot more expensive. Most places I tried didn't even carry them in stock.
I switched to 205/55/R16 and paid <100 a corner after that.

My experience only. Obviously you should check what tyres are suitable for your own car

Umm, from my own experience no. Semperit Speed-Life 225/55/ZR16 haven't changed (from €135 fitted per-corner) for the last three or four years.

Is it the exact same model tyre? Tyre manufacturers release new versions of their tyres all the time and this can result in a price increase, it could be that. Or it could well have been that he knew you needed a tyre urgently.

Also did you price the same tyre somewhere else?

Inflation in the tyre industry is quite common

    :P

The ones I get have increased by €10 per tyre in maybe 4 years or so.
