Hi I m using mac makeup at the moment I find it good. But it seems to disappear by lunch hour. Is there a good makeup anyone can recommend. I have a bit of redness in the skin and need to covet it.
I m looking for makeup that will cover that and last a bit longer while giving the skin a healthy look. Fed up buying make up that's not suitable costing me a fortune.

Where do you buy your make-up? Concession stands in BTs and Debenhams, or specialist shops like Inglot should have staff who could help you with things like that.

I think I might try get samples first just fed up
With cosmetic assistants promoting their products
Even if they are not right for your skin or age. Wasted
    More money doing this
    Thanks

Are you just applying foundation to bare skin? You can make even cheap foundations last much longer by applying a primer (over moisturiser but underfoundation), then foundation and them set it with a translucent powder. The addition of primer and finishing powder will help your foundation stay put longer. I like the Gosh primer (it's E15 at the moment) and a friend of mine has said she likes the Rimmel primer, and it's fairly cheap too.

Have you tried using a primer?

Some primers that are highly rated, listed in order of perceived popularity:
    Smashbox Photofinish
    Benifit Porefection
    Gosh Velvet Touch

I go between Dior's Skinflash primer and Smashbox Photofinish, I really couldn't say which is better tho because both make my make up last all day. I have very oily skin so without a primer my make up would usually be gone in a few hours.

A good primer will make your foundation sit much nicer on your skin as well as making it last a lot longer.

The older version of the Elizabeth Arden compact was pretty heavy and quite thick - similar to Estee Lauder Doublewear, I think. However, the new compact is considerably lighter in weight, much more blendable and a million times better, in my opinion. Very good for red patches!

I use their Ceramide foundation myself as I tend to get very pink near the nose, and that plus a primer really helped and didn't need retouching.

Worth knowing that EA have their Foundation Exchange on in Debenhams until the 4th of August, too. If you bring in an old or empty foundation that's from another company, they give you 7 Euro off and a free foundation consultation too.

    Irish skin is normally around:

NC15/NW15 to NC25/NW25 in MAC (uber pale would be NC10/NW10)
    51-52 in Bourjois
10-30 in YSL (30 being if you have a bit of colour)
Ivory, Buff, Sand Beige, Nude or Natural Beige in Revlon (increasing from palest to slightly darker)

As said above, try make-up counters like in Debenhams. You can get some free samples to try out, but be sure to emphasise whether you wear fake tan or not, or if you want it "Irish pale". Some sales assistants do push darker shades as they assume you normally wear fake tan, or because the shade looks good under fluorescent lighting but not outside of the shop.

MAC staff are notorious for pushing the wrong shade, I've been shade matched to NW30 there even though NW15 is too dark for me, and I told them I never wear fake tan.

Urban Decay Naked Skin might be good, the sales assistants in Debenhams are very nice and matched me up to the second lightest shade (I'm very pale but had a slight tan due to the heatwave, so they also suggested the lightest shade for winter if I choose to buy it).

Get samples before you commit. Some of the higher end brands are great for samples.

I have gotten samples from Dior, Chanel, Esteé Lauder, YVS and Lancome in the past.

You definitely need to shop around and try before you buy, especially if you can't get samples.

Also, as a few posters have said, get a good primer and also a good setting powder. They will both add hours to your make up.

Boots will let you take samples from their tester foundations if you bring in little bottles/jars - always ask first though!

I used to use mac too but now I swear by Estée Lauder double wear they can match you in debenhams or some pharmacy stock it too, if you think it would be too heavy you could try double wear light but I don't wear much make up and I find it fine as in when ppl say heavy it's not in the cakey type of heavy :)

Are you using powder over the foundation? If not, start.

My skin is so oily it would put OPEC out of business. If I didn't set my foundation with loose powder, itd just slide straight off my face. Also, make sure your moisturiser and foundation are oil-free.

I don't bother with primer, tbh. I've tried a good few over the years and none of them have made *that* much difference. Powder is the key for me.

what xzanti said the double wear is great especially if you use a primer with it

I also would swear my loreal infallible foundation it does not come off I've had it on 18 hours before and it hadnt budged so I was very impressed.

My only caution about the two above is if you have dry skin wear a primer as I personally find that the foundations that last a long time can tend to get dry and sink into fine lines emphasising them
