Mine is only properly growing now. The dry weather really stunted it. I had put out slurry before the dry spell which caked on top when the dry weather came. Its broken up at last thankfully.

It's moving again but there were 2 weeks of no growth.

So, say two weeks of no growth, do ye all count this into its growth time since closing? Ours is prob 6 weeks since fert, but I'm thinking another 3 weeks before cutting.

Don't plan on going beyond that as quality is the name of te game, learned that big time last year.

Closed off 40acres in early june for 2nd cut, have had to graze the most of that, will cut 15acres of it at the end of this week, and I reckon whats on it is barely hitting the 2000kg/ha. Will need to go in for another cut on the farm in late September.

Did you ever consider extending your grazing as opposed to doing a third cut?
Prob the most expensive feed in the yard

i have too much grass at the minute... going to reseed some paddocks, do some bales and i wont need to graze the silage ground until september... too much grass is nearly as bad as having none

third cut will be cut in 3-4 weeks and then cows can go to it- will do 45 acres, have a 30 acre field that i did for second cut that cows will graze instead of the fields i am reseeding....

I wish I could graze all the acres I have, by the cows obviously but even heifers etc, landlord won't allow grazing. In saying that, as bales the cost of 3rd cut is okay and quality is good too. Bales don't recognize what cut you're doing. Bales ftw:p

No but he's contrary like that but that's his only issue. He is great to deal with. And it's good land and close. I get three good cuts off it and it can take slurry any day of the year it's so dry. Land is hard to come by locally.

my small second cut done 3.5 bales to acre so just under a ton of DM per ac after 60units of N and 4k gls of slurry. This was a hybrid ryegrass and growing for something under 40days. Pathetic

Growth or the grass? Find those silage hybrids all show and no substance.

Growth, hybrids are perfect if used as they should be in a very short rotation. This one is in it third season and will be out next march. For grazing they would be a waste of time

:o Still getting used to this smart phone. Here's a pic of my second cut that took yesterday evening. Hoping to get it knocked and baled over the weekend. Nitrogen out just over 6 weeks. It's nice and leafy, but no great bulk to it.

Have another ~3 acres that I'm strip grazing at the moment. Needs must

Four weeks June good growth. March was polar, cold nights and harsh wind April and May nothing in July, some stressful time for grass plants.
Sunny here now and cool wind to boot, some kindness please?

    We relit Aga yesterday
