This is on sunday 4th. A2/3 race and separate A4. I'm heading down. Anyone else?

They've online sign-on, details on their website.

    http://www.southeastroadclub.com/

Am I right in saying the circuit is different to previous years? It's an out-and-back with roundabouts at either end. Looks like a decent wide road, but with dreaded catseyes lining the hard shoulder.

Where did ya read that it was a combined A2/3 race? And also where did you read that the course was changed? It was a good course last year :(

This open to A3s as well? According to CI calendar it's A2s only?

Last year was a combined A2/3 affair. Weather was reminiscent of the downpours we've been having the last few days.

What's the distance and is that drag enough to split things?

Here's the course details. Not cleear on whether A2 & 3 are combined, but they were last year I think?

Not clear on distance either. That circuit is 9k, so I'm guessing (and I am only guessing) it's three out-and-backs for A4, which would come in at 54k. Anyone in a better position able to confirm?

The drag looks like 1k to gain just short of 30m, don't think it will be enough to split the bunch, but then it all depends on what sort of pace those at the front can set.

    That's the wrong route.
    This is the route:
    http://www.mapmyride.com/ie/gorey-l/2011-falling-leaves-classic-route-42817144
Its a 9 mile loop. We will roll out from Gorey Rugby Club to the bottom of the drag and then BOOM!
You should look up the thread from last years race. I think a lot of guys were caught out on the early hill, maybe not fully warmed up or just soft I dunno :D

I did a training spin on this a fewmonths back the and descent is super craic. It's not technical (afair) and quick enough and seems to go on and on.

Deffo heading to this myself, hopefully it'll be a bit of craic.
    Slo

Maybe I'm wrong, I see they have a link to your route on the web page. I'll fb message their committee guy and see.

    Here's last years thread:

Sounds like my route (hill at the start) so I'm presuming the website is wrong though that is unlikely.
Dazed and confused but trying to continue.

I heard it was the out and back route on a wide road. If it is, I'm not going down but I would be tempted if it's the same course as last year.

Yeah, the previous loop looks terrific, surely preferable to an out and back along a main road?

I'm going to go anyway because it's my last chance for open racing before the Wexford 2 day and I want to keep my eye in.

Ah SERC and/or Diarmuid will be along here soon to clear this up I reckon.

The route has been changed and does not go up kilmurray hill anymore. The council has re- aligned and changed priority the junction at the bottom (straight on first lap then left turn after finish line).
Route now is on the old N11 between roundabouts.

I hope you have been misinformed but you sound quite sure. This is sickening as I was looking forward to that course.
Will it not be a borefest now?

And there's no alternative on anywhere either by the looks of the CI calendar.
I'm in the area that weekend anyway so I might do it. I think I'll just make it a training seesion though and attack like a loon. Maybe something would stick.

If it's up-hill it is more appealling.

Spoke with Derek this morning. Its on the old N11 between 2 oundabouts and its not as easy as seems. He also confirmed its a combined A2/A3 race,an A4 race, and a womans race, with rhe sign on in the Rugby club, off the old N11 on the Dublin side of Gorey.Come off the M11 at the Inch roundabout and head towards Gorey and then take a left.Dont forget theres a race in Mountnugent on Sat evening also.Think its at 7pm.Usually 10 x laps of the local 5km circuit.

Just to say this is a draggy circuit and although we'd prefer to do the Kilmurray circuit as of last year, we didn't have a choice in the matter this time around.

As per www.southeastroadclub.com the races/distances are as follows

    3 Races, A2-3 (85km / 5 laps) , A4 & woman’s race (68km / 4 laps) of the SERC Circuit between the Tinnock & Kish roundabouts

With not many open races left this season, I know we've to make the most of what's left. Hopefully it's not as wet as last year

Thanks Dogtanion - can you reveal where the finish line will be (hint: please let it be on a draggy bit).

The finish is the draggy bit on the Tinnock roundabout (Gorey side) end of the course. It's clearly marked from 1km to go. I've just added the route via mapmyride so you can see the actual course's gradient etc... Just to say, if like some you like to warmup on the course, it's 5km from Gorey RFC to the start and it's a 17km lap, a nice 27km warmup if you fancy it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 149 ✭✭1750W

It's quite a testing circuit especially if riders are prepared to race.

What km is the finish line at? It's not the end of that route is it? That would mean taking the roundabout immediately before the finish. #carnage

Well organised race, well done, thanks to SERC, everything was great except for my legs!

Saw a few lads been pulled out of ditches, here and there but noone seemed hurt, apparently one lad took a hefty tumble in the sprint for the minor A4 places when he clipped a parked car, believe apart from feeling battered he is alright.

Happened beside me and thought it might have been bad, glad he's ok. The course was good craic, really enjoyed the racing. But flat finishes after a flat course are not good. Deffoe will avoid them in future!
    Nice one SERC...

Enjoyed the race. Well done SERC.

Only my 3rd A4 race of the year and after struggling in the first two my only aim today was to stay with the group and I managed that - just. First couple of laps were quick enough and I was in danger of getting spat out on the drag back up from the Arklow sides roundabout each lap. No real hills but not a flat course either.

Coming in to the end it was getting a bit crowded so I drifted to the back. Inevitable with the pushing and shoving going on towards the end that something would happen and there was two crashes in the last 500m. One it looked like the lad was going for a gap that wasn't there and he was squeezed out of it and took a tumble into the ditch. Second one was a sprint for minor places and he took out two cars wing mirrors parked up on the opposite side of the road. His bike went flying as did he.

Probably won't race again this year but I have hope now for next season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Dogtanian7

Thanks to all that raced today. Thankfully the rain stayed mainly away. Hopefully we'll be back to the Kilmurry hill circuit next year. We've gotten some great feedback so thanks again to all. The Wexford Wheeler casualty was released from hospital and is doing well, just cuts and bruises in the end

A wexford wheeler lad. Visit to hospital , few stitches and glue. Back out now and fine.

Clipped the parked cars wing mirrors. :: Don't park cars near finish lines....on a race circuit.

Aye I'd couple that with don't bother sprinting for 30th place, bit of cop on with the cars and the sprinting and these bunch sprints would be alot safer.

    Any results up anywhere yet?

    Up on Stickybottle.

Managed to get in my 1st ever break yesterday after many unsuccessful attempts this year. We rode well together for the 65km or thereabouts. Lads started getting tired towards the end especially on the drags but we kept it together and it was nice to see everyone still together coming into the last few km. I followed an Orwell attack and then 3 guys came around me and I hung in for 5th. The slight drag finish would have suited me better but the crashes in A4 meant it was brought forward 500m. In hindsight I should have made a few efforts to break up the group in the last few km as my legs were feeling good throughout so lesson learned for the future. Don't think I'll get an upgrade this year but I'm coming good after a bad start to the year.

Fair play to SERC. Good grub, great roads and showers after any race are a big help. Also, thanks to Inquitus for the lift and waiting around for me. Hope fallers are ok today.

Good advice and goes to show no matter how wide roads are accidents still happen. Hard to stop people sprinting for 30th as its perhaps the most enjoyable part of the race for them. Good policy for upcoming Wexford 2 day not have cars parked at finish line.

Don't think we can blame the car for this one. Sprinting along the yellow line on the 'wrong' side of the road on the widest finish you can get is asking for trouble. If the car wasn't there it could have been a spectator.

Agree wholeheartedly about parking near finish line but this was 200m from finish and line of cars were behind the yellow line and race had passed same spot 4 times so they were hardly a surprise.

Wouldn't be a huge fan of this type of circuit tbh, where the groups are meeting each other all the time.Fair play to SERC for promoting the event, but surely theres a better circuit in the area.Would also agree that there should be no cars parked in the vicinity of the finish, but that wasnt the real issue here.Eyeballs out across the road for a very minor placing?
