Google scholars will show you all the research simply search "The effects of androgenic-anabolic steroids"

I also know Harrison G. Pope done a short study on the psychiatric effects if you Google him and the same buzz words. However with Harrison's study it's important to keep in mind it was a narrow spectrum analysis and not fully comprehensive off AAS use fall-out.

The whole point of the thread was to find out if anyone had come across studies that concluded perminent effects..

Are you trying to start an argument with something you haven't got a clue in?

Also judging by your question one can assume you won't understand the studies or the manner in which they are presented so allow me to sum it up for you.

If there was no negative effects of Androgenic-anabolic steroids, the pharmaceutical industry would be wiping the floor with AAS users and hitting the FDA (Etc.) with research 24/7 to get them put on the shelves. The steroid prevalence in the 'body-building' industry (and I use that term VERY lightly in this case...) is one of multi-million dollar underground sales per anum, do you think pharmaceutical companies don't want to be a part of that?

From what I understand the pharmaceutical industry has a massive involvement in the ASS industry. Not every safe drug is available on a shelve,
    No?

Well I should also point out, AAS's are used "safely" in modern medicine all the time when it comes to growth related issues. However what you need to understand is the fundamentals of what the body can take and how it responds.

Secondly, no most AAS vials that 'body-builders' use are "cooked". They're made in a somewhat make shift lab then vialed and shipped. (From my own personal experience of watching people put them into their bodies)

Finally, No. Not all drugs that are safe on a shelf but that's a bit narrow of the nature of the substance when we talk about AAS.

But all in all some counties such a Thailand and Mexico you can walk into a chemist and buy as much of the stuff as you like. So... to each their own :)

There is ample research to portray the negative effects to answer that. If you google the stuff I previously mentioned :)

Trust me ive googled this, that's why I came here. Im very aware of the short term effects a reversible effects but nothing proves to be perminent not reversible if taking in moderation ( such as testosternone replacement therapy)

Thanks for your input man, much
    appreciated

Seriously though, with regard to permanent side effects, anabolic steroids can cause a huge amount of serious problems, both mental and physical.

Research suggests that it can cause aggression, depression, paranoia etc.. In addition to the physical problems such as eye, heart, kidney, liver and stomach damage. I've seen first hand the way it changes a persons personality and for what? So you can look like you're wearing a bubble jacket underneath your skin? Ever see a roided out person try to run? Their thighs get so big they walk like they have a spud up their árse.
They can't wear corduroy trousers because they'll deafen themselves and those around them.

Go look at the list of all the pro wrestlers who have died young in the last ten years. That will give you an idea of what they can do.

The problem with them is abuse. And they are extremely prevalent in society today. You can see loads of men walking around Dublin City who are obviously juicing. It might be better if they were legal so that users could take them under supervision without relying on bro-science and internet advice. Stupidity is responsible for misadventures with steroids, not really the drugs themselves.

A lot of Hollywood actors use them. Just google Christian Bale 'Machinist' vs 'Batman Begins'. Apparently there were only 5 months between filming. He CLAIMS he ate hamburgers and lifted 'very heavy weights'. Riiiight. And look at Hugh Jackman in the Wolverine films- every time he changes into Huge Jacked-man! And Chris Hemsworth- I remember seeing him in Star Trek...normal looking guy- then in Thor..blimey charlie! My point is that under a doctor's supervision, and with a little bit of cop on, one can safely use these drugs without problems.

I'd kinda go along with that myself. Problem is people tend to overdo things when they see results and reckon more is good. Whatever about steroids, I could see taking things like testosterone and human growth hormone as men age and their levels drop as a kind of HRT for blokes. In medically supervised low doses to match those of youth of course. Apparently HGH has quite the positive affect.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Depends what you mean by steroids?

Cortisol derivatives for instance can have long term effects on bone density.

Back in the days of East and West Germany, a lot of East Germany athletes were forced to take steroids so sport in the country would be renowned on a worldwide scale, thus improving the country's image.

A lot of the doped athletes are now in lawsuits against some of the instigators and of course, they've had to carry the burden of years of steroid abuse, with ailments such as heart disease, high blood pressure and nerve damage, to name a few. In fact one athlete, Andreas Kreiger had a sex change because the amount of testosterone she took made her develop male characteristics.

    Steroids give you haemorrhoids.

I'd have thought that was obvious OP.

Don't use them unless prescribed by a real, actual medical doctor.

Would help if the OP put the question in context..

Then I'm sure I could give a better response... an awesome response. A savage AH classic response.

What I was trying to get at was it the abuse of steroids that is the dangerous part or can they be takin with moderation and caution in a safe manner, ie regular blood work done ect.

There's an excellent documentary on the subject called Bigger, Stronger, Faster. Its on youtube as far as I know. It's a pretty level headed and unbiased look at steroids as a whole, both from a medicinal perspective and the cheating in sports/cosmetic angle.

Can steroids be taken safely? yes. Are they going to turn you into a roid rage fuelled loon? not likely aside from long term abuse in a minority.

I've seen "Bigger stronger faster " it's good alright, would be great if it went a bit more into detail on the science end of it.

    Oh if thats the case..........................

I think all in moderation, if you do it now and again or the odd blue moon time, yeah grand. I don't believe in using it to gain advantage in competition though mind you.

Then this in itself could lead to another debate..

For example, "Steroid can kill you"- Of course they can. However, If you know what you're taking and are a responsible person - Then you will know better.

Research is critical as well. Or as they say, Know what you're buying!

    Ramble over.

Now for the classic AH response: Druggy!

"Steroids" are given to men with low testosterone levels, women who want to become men, and people with aids.

But its only seen as unhealthy if you're using them to increase your muscle mass, for some reason.

Steroids are used to treat cancer so that'd be pretty ironic. anyway "steroids" are a multitude of different things, they dont come in a bottle labelled "evil things" like Fox News would have you believe.

all the other parts are in the youtube link, well worth a watch.

The amount of bullshít in this thread.

Those of you who reference CORTISOL / CORTISONE / CANCER TREATMENTS. Please, leave now.

ANDROGENIC-ANABOLIC STEROIDS ARE USED FOR BODY BUILDING. If you're going to attempt to give someone bro-science advice at least have the decency to Google steroid types and classifications in order to establish a base of understanding ANDROGENIC-ANABOLIC STEROID use.
