    Guys,

Pretty sure these need replacing on the car, can anybody give me an idea of cost? Just so I know I'm not getting ripped off.

    Thanks a million

around €25 for the pads and €60 for the discs

And how much for labour? Roughly?

    Is that 25 and 60 each (so x4) ?

Why do you think they need changing! Chances are there are only discs on th front, drums on the rear. Discs and pads are pretty simple to change if you have the interest, aptitude and space.

Have all the above but no tools and don't know anybody in Dublin who could help me.

There's an intermittent grating noise coming from the front of the car on slowing and/or braking.

It's going to be looked at tomorrow morning so just wanted to have an idea of what it costs.

Could well be pads only but take a good look at the calipers too - at that age, especially if the fluid hasn't been regularly changed, you'll find they can corrode and seize and/or the bellows on the slides can deteriorate. If so you'll be looking at replacing calipers.

BTW IIRC I think you need an 8mm ring spanner and a 14mm & 17mm ring spanners or sockets and little more in terms of tools. Calipers were costing about e115 each on Micksgarage when I priced then recently.

And judging at the prices a quick google gave that will be pretty expensive.

May be a case of cutting my losses with the car and getting back on the bike.

Time to get myself skilled with the car or find a skills trading website where I can make spectacles in return for car maintainance!

Thanks for all your help guys, il update in the morning with the damage.

FWIW I bought good calipers from a guy who was breaking a 95 and put them with discs onto my brother's 95 for e100. I'm no genius with cars but took my time and did it easily. There is also a Haynes manual available, which could be worth e20. If you can be without it for a few days while you're working on it, its do-able.

Well it's do without for a few days or do without all together as I spent 400 on it a few months back for NCT and can't afford to put more money into it.

Have to weigh up the cost of tools and sourcing and getting the parts verus paying somebody to do it.

Guess time will tell come morning!

Btw you buy pads in a set and discs individually - but change both pads and discs on both sides together or it'll pull one way or the other.

No point scrapping the car over a set of disks and pads. The issue you have is more than likely very minor and the car most probably will serve you well for years to come.

i'd be surprised if it needs more than €150 spent on it.

i bought a set of mintex pads for that car the other day for €22. i also know that fast fit will fit a set of pads to any car for a flat rate price of €69.

it's unlikely imo that it needs discs too.

70 quid and new brake pads and I'm sorted.

    Thanks for all your help
