Part Exchange Properties

On a recent visit to Scotland I noticed that quite a lot of property for sale signs
read 'part exchange considered / welcome'. These were privately held properties mostly newly developed. Does anyone have any knowledge of such a system and whether it is an option here in Ireland, to help people moved to more suitable homes.

It used be possible- you could swap or exchange properties without incurring stamp duty or a taxable gain on the transaction- however this was closed off in Irish tax law some time ago (I think its gone almost 10 years at this stage).

If an Irish buyer and seller can match up and come to an agreement- nothing to stop them doing so- however both legs of the transaction incur taxes, fees, charges, stamp duty etc.
