I'm looking at buying a 10 reg diesel. Only one owner & has roughly 83,000 miles. To me it doesn't seem too high?!

Just under 30k miles a year. The mileage is fine for a diesel, be more interested about servicing and maintenance of the vehicle.

Like thats a 3 year old car, so about 28000 miles a year. Thats grand for a diesel car imo, it's just being broken in. They are capable of serious mileage. I bought a 08 car last year with 88000 miles on it, and its still going mighty. What kinda car is it, out of curiosity :)

A mechanic friend always says that it takes nigh on 100k on a diesel car for it to be broken in. The only qualm I'd have with a diesel with decently high mileage is service history - is there a record with the car? A well serviced and maintained diesel engine could possibly go forever! :D

Edited to add I've a 10 reg diesel and have 70k miles on the clock which I think is average enough for a 3 year old car.

If it has a verified service history and is priced accordingly then I would not have a problem.

In Ireland, anything over 100,000 miles seems to be considered high mileage and puts people off. In reality, most cars are capable of serious mileage once they are properly maintained. Buy the car on condition and history. A car with 100,000 motorway miles may have had a much easier life than the same car with half the mileage!! I drive a 05 passat with 160,000 miles. Never any problems with it up until last week when it went into limp mode but it turned out to be only a minor problem.

Typical of the higher end of mid range company car mileage really. Once the servicing/belts/fluids etc are up to date then it's grand. I'd rather have that than one with 30k that saw no servicing and lots of abuse

Yeah the car has a full service history. It was a company car in the uk so all motorway miles. My current diesel is an 06 & has 300k on it!!
