    My question is, do Sovereign rings count as a knuckleduster under Irish law? They may not have been designed to cause injury, but in general they are used as offensive weapons regularly. In my personal experience.
    2. It is hereby directed that section 12 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990 (No. 12 of 1990), shall apply to the following descriptions of weapons:

    ( b ) a knuckleduster, that is to say—

    (i) a band of metal or other hard material worn on one or more fingers, and designed to cause injury, or

    (ii) any weapon incorporating a knuckleduster;

    IN the event that it did, I suspect there are quite a few mothers and grannies around the country who might find themselves with a case to answer! I don't know the answer but the words "designed to cause injury" are likely to be key. Most such rings would no doubt be designed simply as jewelry and the ringmaker would not have not sought to design an injury causing characteristics.

    Only if it were 'designed to cause injury', surely.

    Sovereign rings are not designed to cause injury. They are designed to tell others that you come from the Ascendancy classes, or that you work in Topman.

    Punching someone with a handful of sovereign is just as likely to damage you as it is your victim.

    They're offensive but not sure they're an offensive weapon.

    Well, what is the ring made from? 18 carat gold or gold-plated steel?
