Dublin city center, I am pretty sure if you give a bit of advertisement around Naas people will come over, I pay around 10 Euro for a car was outside, then spend an hour cleaning interior because mini valetting cost on average 20-30 euro in Dubin as I've seen.

    Not so easy im afraid.

What happens if you accidentally scratch a car ?

What if you need to move a customers car but you have no license / insurance etc. ?

What do you use for cleaning cars ?

how to correctly wash cars and hoover etc ?

all the required materials and so on ?

Sorry I doubt I will be a client, I have vouchers and loyalty card for car wash I am using + the distance wont be worth it.

Good luck with your idea, pretty sure if you plan it out well it will go well :)

This is what I was saying to you, is not just washing cars but being careful with the customers cars, the paintwork, knowing what products to buy, no insurance and strangers does not mix well.

To me it's too expensive to be honest . The best detailer in dublin does a two bucket handwash with the best of products for €10 . He paying tax, wages , rent etc. out of that . Can't see much value in paying €15 to you , no offence intended . That said if you can get it by all means go for it .

Bit of advice, if you accidentally scratch a car or if there is a scratch on the car to begin with don't admit liability to it. It is very hard for the person to prove that you were responsible for it.

Are you actually saying if he marks a car he should not admit to it ?

Well he's 15 its not like he'll be able to pay it so ye also if the people saw that he was young they could just try and blame it. So if you do make a scratch OP just say that I didn't do cause it and that it was there when I started washing the car.

Forget the car washing, get into washing house windows.I used to make a killing off it back in the day.Plus people will probably allow you to wash their house windows a lot quicker than letting you touch their car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 neros987

its okay because i washed lots of cars already and i havent maken a scratch ...

Entire bonnet may need to be resprayed. How do you know if you scratched it can you prove you didn't scratch it.

And that's why you don't go to a dodgy car wash kids..

I wash my car myself because its way cheaper but if I was getting it washed professionally I wouldn't go to an establishment where the above scenario could pan out.

If your paying someone your hard earned cash to wash your car, they should look after your car and if they then scratch it through their own neglect or incompetency and don't owe up and demand proof they were the one who made the scratched, that's pretty much sums up what scum is.

Your paying them to make your car look better, if they scratch it they've achieved the polar opposite.

    I don't know why you'd suggest that

When he scratches someones pride and joy, he'll find out that they'll want the scratched section resprayed for specific colour, and also that the price may be over the €400; probably his weeks/months profit.

They'll have to prove it first tough!

That sounds bananas to me no offence chap . If he's old enough to make a few from washing he's old enough to pay if he makes a mistake while washing them . The fact he's 15 doesn't make any difference to me . Not that I'd leave him wash my car anyway . In the last 10 years there has only been two people wash my cars , me and the guy who runs elite auto clean in Dublin .

From 15-20 , I worked in a garage doing p.d.i's for new cars , worked in roches stores and dunnes stores also for a bit . As one of the posters suggested why not chance house window cleaning ? I know I hate doing it and would much prefer someone else to do it . There's plenty of people would go for it I would think .

Well if you got your car washed in Dublin and you noticed you had a scratch later on that day how would you be able to prove that it was the guy that washed your car caused it? They guy would just say I didn't do that and how would you prove he was lying and that you were telling the truth?

Loads of place you can work local supermarkets/restaurants try and get a few hours a week and if your good they'll probably take you on for longer.

If that's not your thing you could wash windows or offer to mow people's lawns in local housing estates for a couple of euros.

Id be checking the car once it's washed . If I noticed later on then who's to say what caused it .

Your making the big assumption all his customers would be level headed non violent folk after realising they forked out €15 for a car wash that's caused €€€'s of damage to their car.

A business that ran like your describing wouldn't last long.

It' not like it's his life long career choice. Its just a Job to the kid to make a bit of money.
If he can talk the talk he'll be able to convince people to wash there cars

Absolutely go for it OP. Plenty of teens all around the world doing it. Get the right gear from the start.

If you listened to everyone on the internet you wouldn't leave the house.

If he can talk the talk great , if he can walk the walk and do a good job then fair play . If you are dealing with somebodies pride and joy you have to accept responsibility if you make a mistake . 15-25-55 that's how it should be .

I'm telling the guy not to admit to it, your telling him to take responsibility for it. I'm just trying to keep cash in the guys pocket. By telling the person that they'll have to prove that he caused the damage.

So you think it's right if he scratches a car that he should not admit to it . might cost the customer a few hundred quid despite the fact they were the ones to give a young fella a chance to make a few bob ?

Jesus man this kid is showing a bit of initiative and you guys are bustin his balls for it.

Call to your neighbours and relatives and see if you can do odd jobs for them including wash their car.

Fair play to you trying to earn a bit of money. Best of luck.

There's nobody busting his balls Eli . Just saying if he makes a mistake to own up to it . By all means I would encourage the kid to go out and make a few quid . It should not come at somebodies elses cost if he scratches a car that's all . It's a very easy thing to do by the way if he's not very careful .

Well when you study hospitality you study various different laws and types of management. You are basically thought that if you go to a really experience establishment/business the commuter is always right no matter what the problem is but if the customer is in a lower class business or establishment they shouldn't expect the best because there not paying for it and that the customer isn't always right unless they can prove it.
I am actually good with my customers because every in the town thinks I am great for opening an affordable sandwich/cake shop in the town. Well we've never poisoned anyone yet and never really had a complaint because if you want a takeaway sandwich in a dash that's no problem and if two pensioners want to sit in front of a pot of tea for hours and chat they they can do that.
I am actually not as bad as I sound I know you think I am an awful P*ick. I just don't want people to walk all over the OP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 515 ✭✭✭Supraman

I commend you for having a business. it's very admirable at a young age . If somebody does complain to you will steadfastly knock it back and no way accept responsibility like you seem to be advocating the op to do ?

Were ye thought dishonesty was a good business ploy to have and to lie when complaints come in ? I wouldn't think so .

I agree the more you pay , the more you should receive . For instance if I go to a michelin restaurant I expect x if I go to mc donalds I expect y . That said if I got food poisoning off mc donalds I wouldn't just think that's my fault for buying cheap . There still has to be a certain standard .

By the way I don't think you are a pr1ck . You are just posting behind a random username in an internet chatroom . I have no idea who you are . You could be anyone with any life story for all I know . It's just a bit of debate and advice for a young lad that's all .

    Well thanks to begin with!
My business has very rarely every really had a complaint and if we we do it's normally easily rectified at a cost of about 1 euro or two but only if we're in the wrong i.e they received the wrong wrap/Sandwich or type of coffee.not hundreds which could happen in the op's case. If there is a major complaint the hse would be called in and it would be up to them to build a case if somebody was poisoned on my premises if they were that's what the insurance is for and we thankfully never had to use. If food poisoning cases weren't investigated people could just say I got sick out of the cafe and expect the owner to pay the doctors fee/compensation. In the OPs case no investigation would take place and the OP could be blamed in the wrong.
