Where to lock bike? Two choices

I going to start cycling to work soon. I'm hoping I'll be able to bring my bike into work, but that may not be practical and/or there may be occasions in which I'll have to lock it outside. I've two choices of where to do so:

Location 1: Bike stand in outside car park just across from a fairly busy entrance. This would be the most convenient and easiest to lock to using mini U-locks. But not many people lock their bikes there for more than a few minutes at most, so my bike would be a prime target. No security cameras.

Location 2: A somewhat quiet spot in an underground car park but slap bang in front of a security camera. I would need a big U-lock or chain to lock here. Even if the camera proved a successful deterrent I'd still be concerned about vandalism from little scumbags.

    Any thoughts?

Either or. Just, whatever you do, don't get just one lock.

When the rain sets in, you'll be glad to see a nice dry saddle, so I'd vote for the underground car park. Two nice heavy duty U-locks, or one decent U-lock and a chunky chain that you can leave attached to the pole will do the job and will be a great deterrent.

Use a heavy duty cable in conjunction with the U lock or preferably a second lock. If you can afford it, use separate locks/cables for work which you can leave locked at the bike stand. It will save you from carrying them daily. I would use the car-park option.

    The underground one?

    The underground one?
Yes - meant to say underground.

I would vote underground carpark. Bike thief probably less likely to pop in and even if he does, camera and your heavy duty locks should be enough. Get the biggest, heaviest, scariest looking locks you can. It won't matter how heavy they are if you can leave them locked there overnight etc.
