I want to build a barn to store square & round bales in a green field site. I am planning for a 3 x 2 bay shed with 2 walls (back & side) for shelter with a sloping roof from back to front. Supported by railway tracks & wooden beans where possible. Base will be hard core for now.

    Any ideas/ suggestions/ estimated costs of materials/ ventilation/ references/ approaches etc?

I don't know how the beans will hold up :D
Is this a result of the good summer? A few years ago I baled a lot of hay and was thinking of building a shed for it then after a few miserable summers I discovered bale wrap was cheaper :) What's a 3x2 bay? Is it 30' wide by 3 bays long. If you are building a shed like that an A roof would be a better option.

yeah an A roof would be better, espically if your looking to store bales as you'll want to be able to lift them 4 or 5 high. You'll need a wall ideally to support the bales and to stop them from falling out (depending on if your only gogint to use access from one side, no need really for a concrete floor just a good even hardcore finish will do then stack the bales on pallets, its keeps them dry and allows air underneath too.

When I say 3 x 2 bay, I mean 3 bays wide and 2 bays deep, where each bay is 15-20 foot. What should I take into consideration here? Is a sloping roof out of the question does it have to be A shaped?
