Which Club?

    Hi

I am going to join a golf club again this year. I was a member in Druids Heath and loved the course but had to give up due to study commitments and work. Well the study is over soon and would like a club nearer to home so I can pop down for some practise in the evenings.

I've identified Lucan and Newlands as potential (Newlands 5 minutes from home and Lucan 15) and I know it's my decision but would love to know the preference of boards members between the 2 clubs or any info you think I should know.

    Cheers

    Thanks sodbuster
Yeah, both are basically the same price but payable over different terms. Really looking for opinions on the course and club like winter conditions atmosphere and so on.

Newlands is a par 71 (CSS 72) mature well maintained course. It's main defences are its tight fairways and fast greens. Big hitting is not a priority but there is a premium on accuracy.

The course is very playable all year round and it is only in extreme adverse weather that the course is closed, temp greens are only used when there is a heavy frost.

In general I would describe the members and staff as welcoming. It's a vibrant club with a strong men and women's section which lends to a heathy atmosphere around the club.

Can't think of any reasons to discourage you from joining once you are happy to pay the €5k entrance fee.

You should also check out the weekly comp schedule so as not to make the same mistake I did last year by joining Beech Park who have no midweek singles.

Thanks for the replies. Certainly is a tough decision when joining fee involved.
