Fiat Punto Service and NCT

    Hi guys,
I have a 01 Fiat Punto and it's coming up to the nct date. I want to get a full service done on it along with what ever has to be done for the nct. I was wondering was is the going rate for a full service these days?
I went to one guy and he said he would do a full service and give me a list for what has to be done for the nct. I was talking to a few people after and the feedback for this guy wasn't great. i went to another garage then and they said 100 euro for a full service.
I know there will have to be a few things done like half the exhaust system will have to be changed and all the brakes will have have to be done.
I just don't want to get scewed as I'm not in a great financial postion at the minute so if it is possible I need to keep the cost down.
Any tips on this will be great,
    Thanks.

I'd be wary of getting a pre-nct list of jobs that need to be done. Better off testing the car and see what needs doing, as the retest fee is only €28, a lot less than gettung needless work done.

RE the full service, no such thing really, ans all servicable items have there own schedule. Presumably your talking about oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, and check other fluid levels, tyres etc as a full service. If so, how much did it cost last time (12 mths ago prob). Price wont be radically different.

RE the brakes and exhaust, how do yo know this work needs to be done? If the brakes do need to done, thats an important job, wouldnt be waitng just for the nct, you want the stop on yiur car to work.

Only other thing is to do a check of bulbs etc before you bring it in, dont fail on something silly

Put car through the NCT as it is now (well, have brakes looked at pronto).
If it passes - celebrate with an oil service.

The fact that you see the two as separate requirements explains how garages make money out of 'pre-NCT' checks, it's a licence to print money for unnecessary work.

If your car is properly cared for and serviced reasonably frequently, you shouldn't have to do anything special for an NCT.

Agree with previous poster, get the brakes looked at if you're sure they need attention, otherwise put it in for the NCT and see what happens.
