    Hi

This question relates to the 2008 (B 8) onwards A4 1.8 tfsi with MULTITRONIC.

I'm specifically asking about the multitronic gearbox in these cars.

Im not interested in multitronics in the older model cars, just this model.

Ive heard alot of bad stories about Multitronics BUT do these bad stories also apply to the 2008 onwards Audis

My boss's 09 A6 Multitronic has given him bother even at low mileage. .....not very conducive to economy either. ...

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I've an 09 diesel A4 Multitronic since last Sept & have had no issues with it whatsoever. Smooth acceleration through the box & no lag. Love it.

My second automatic car, had a 04 1.6 Renualt Megane before it. No comparison really

My brother has had them from 08 on and 0 problems, they are pretty much sorted these days.

his 2012 A6 shifts like a dsg and is still ultra smooth, it gets rid of the rubber band effect of a CVT.

    I don't know if the newer A4's shift like a dsg ?

We have a good few A4 Multitronics on fleet, all 2.0Tdi's though.

Don't think we've had a single issue with the box on an A4 B8 (apart from it being very slow to respond to throttle input).

Had issues with at least 1 B7 model, but think the box is much better now.

    Thanks Ballooba.
It's just annoying with the Internet and forums etc - some say don't touch multitronic with a barge pole. Then you have people like yourselves who have probably done thousands of miles of trouble free motoring.

My mileage is not that high, maybe 10,000 km p.a.

But how many people on Boards.ie have this box compared to all the forums you are checking. Granted people will probably only post about problems they've had. If you want to determine these boxes are unreliable I think you would have to cast the net further.

I know what your saying but at least it will give me a small indication

I was similarly concerned when buying my B7, as the car was only three years old at that time and forums were full of horror stories about the B6. I was reasonably assured from my research that the issues with the multitronic had been resolved for the B7. I'm surprised that this is still a concern for the B8.
