How are they to deal with? I've never used them

    I tend to use

    Linode ($15-20 p/mo)

    and lately as well

    Digital Ocean ($5 p/mo)

What's the traffic allowance for it?

They tag on VAT at the end, so for the year its 35.88 and then add on VAT @8.25 = 44.13, its still not bad at all with 2GB ram and 500GB disk

Got a freebie off them last time they offered freebies, but it only lasted about 3 or 4 months, never had any issues with it. Was disappointed when they pulled the freebie tho, I didn't realise it was time limited.

Yup, your effectively self hosting, but if you've no Linux experience it can be a handful to setup. Its extra for windows I think.... And extra for cPanel or Plesk control panels (but you could install Webmin for free)

It doesn't specify any BW restrictions. Given my previous experience, I'd be surprised if there were restrictions.

    SLA Best Effort
The server is connected at 100Mbps. The bandwidth is 100Mbps guaranteed up to 5TB of monthly traffic. Beyond 5TB of monthly traffic, the bandwidth is 10Mbps guaranteed.

Looks like it is unlimited but just after the first 5TB you only are guaranteed 10Mbps speeds.

You're better off spending 5.99 or more on an ssd vps offer from lowendbox.com.

Heres a benchmark from one of those servers i made a couple of weeks ago:

    http://serverbear.com/benchmark/2013/07/11/3TzSGr6iCv34WxF7

    I/O is glacial
    FIO
    Read IOPS 177.0
    Read Bandwidth 726 KB/second
    Write IOPS 148.0
    Write Bandwidth 609 KB/second
thats versus a 5.99 ssd server in netherlands
    Read IOPS 44053.0
    Read Bandwidth 176.2 MB/second
    Write IOPS 155612.0
    Write Bandwidth 622.4 MB/second

Actually I've ordered one for backup anyway cheers o/p

Anyone actually manage to get one, they just emailed me after 10 days saying they couldn' verify my payment which is bull as its the same paypal that my other ovh servers are pid out of every month and I have paypal confirmation emails. Others seem to have the same email today look like ovh were engaging in a pr / data mining exercise following their massive security breach a few days prior to the offer.

    OVH are pretty good.
I've been using them for years.
I've had multiple problems and only used their ticket system.
The turnaround is usually about 1 day.

Used to be 4TB a month "unlimited" ala upc and eircom here.
Then you could get 10mb/s for as much as you want.

I got an email last week saying they're doing away with that (you could buy more TB of transfer at 100mb), so I'm not really sure anymore, but it should be at least 4TB per month.

    Same thing happened to me.

Seems they were accepting orders ten days after it was out of stock. Nice way to pick up emails, Plonkers.

They rejected all Paypal payments, including mine and removed paypal as an option. Something about people using paypal to bypass the no resellers rule. I ordered again via card - looks like that one is going through.

I reordered Sunday, the KS2G was marked out of stock on Monday.

At least you got a reply,

OVH say they took over 15000 orders, according to someone on lowend box they are getting about 1000 pieces of hardware per month from intel you might be waiting.

I bought the €9.99/month server (I wanted the extra RAM and CPU anyway) the other day and got an email that it was set up today. Seems to be working really well so far. Seems to run rings around my VPS that costs me nearly twice as much for a quarter of the RAM and probably around half the CPU speed (not 100% sure on that given the difference between a full Atom vs a share on a Xeon).

    Thanks OP!

Did you get an atom tough, lots of peole have ended up with dual cores on their kimsufis. Run a serverbear benchmrk of it for giggles.
    http://serverbear.com/add-benchmark

A lot of the vps providers are taking the complete piss, especially in ireland. Of course irish commerial electriity prices are double triple or more what you can get in places like france, netherlands, canada etc.

If you're looking for a control panel for customers you can get them at silly money here: http://www.netsys-online.com/parallels-lizenzen/endkunden.html

It's supposed to be a dual core Atom according to the site. Might run the benchmark when I get chance. Thanks for the link for control panels, but this is going to be for my own use only, so no need for one.
