Can I apply for the dole before my redundancy starts?

I've just been given notice of redundancy, along with 40 others. My last day of employment will be September 30th. Can I sign on at the dole office before that date to speed things up?

I think you have to be unemployed, not nearly unemployed. They always say go down the day after you finish to make your claim.

You should apply for Jobseeker's Benefit the first day you become unemployed.
It is important to apply on the first day you become unemployed because you will not get paid for the first 3 days of your claim.

The above link will also give you information about how redundancy payments of over €50,000 will disqualify you from claiming for varying periods of time.
