Property taxes make it over priced.

I must live in a hole, because i never knew you could buy a home off Ebay

Mind you, some nice lil properties on there... if it weren't Detroit.

Only in certain markets. the property section on the US site is pretty big. They have an escrow section there which is used so you don't even need to get lawyers involved (Although i think I would if I was buying a house).

Houses in Detroit will be 1k for a long time yet. The city has just declared bankruptcy, all major employment is gone.

Very few white people live in Detroit anymore. They all moved to the suburbs which are 45 miles away from it due to the crime and the fact it's crumbling. You can buy skyscrapers in what was once wealthy for **** all.

But then again the German government was dumping houses and apartments in Berlin a few years ago as they were loss making and now they have doubled in value. But I can't see the same for Detroit where whole streets are missing houses

pfff....buying houses in Detroit, why not just get paid to take them?

How would it work for an ordinary Irish person (like me) to buy one?

Is the price you get it for on ebay all you'd have to pay?

I've my eye on a plot for $5.50 :D...I can afford that!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,113 ✭✭✭shruikan2553

If you installed some steel shutters on the windows, built a wall around the house and had a private security company it would be a great do upper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,147 ✭✭✭PizzamanIRL

You can buy them on adverts.ie too sure. A few up there for millions of euro

How it would probably work, is some crack head would fall over while dealing in your run down unsecured property, he would hurt himself and sue you.

What about if the government here gave half of us unemployed the money to buy a few streets. Open a bar...or something..job done! We'd be out of their hair and Detroit would get back on its feet. Sounds so ridiculous it might work?

Sounds very cheap alright, just don't mention to the Irish that dreaded property tax. You'll be lynched! :)

Must be a property boom with prices going up like that, nearly doubled! Gotta get on that detroit property ladder. Rent is dead money...sorry, meant if you rent there you would be dead and they'll take your money.
