    http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Onda-V972-9-7inch-Allwinner-A31-Quad-Core-Android-4-1-Tablet-PC-10Piont-Retina-display/756593005.html

Picked up one of these from the above seller after doing a good bit of research on buying tablets from China. I wouldn't recommend it out of the box, but with some minor upgrading that even non-tech people like me can perform, you'll end up with a really decent tablet for the price.

I found the seller trustworthy and attentive, item arrived as described via DHL Express after 14 days. No issues with customs.

    Modifications:

    1. Installed Kasty ROM (google it), speeds it up a bit and removes bloatware.
    2. Overclocked to run at 1.2GHZ, using AnTuTu CPU Master (free app).
    3. Sideloaded flash player, installed Boat Browser, meaning most of the flash sites I need to use function perfectly.

    Positives:

    - The screen is excellent, great to watch a movie on or for detailed web browsing.

    - It's fast, looks great, and is easily modified.

    - New custom ROM's being released every couple of months improving usability.

    Negatives:

    - Volume level is low and audio performance suffers as a result. Not sure if this will be dealt with by future firmwares. Much better with speakers plugged in.

    - Battery life is a little light, I get around 4 - 5 hours of (very) heavy browsing and battery is low. With the Kasty ROM, it goes into deep sleep mode when idle and will stay powered up for a couple of days no problem without charge.

    - Doesn't support bluetooth, you'll need a bluetooth dongle.

If you don't mind tinkering with things, I think this is a great cheaper alternative to an Ipad or other brand model. For €163 delivered I thought it was pretty much a bargain. You might be able to trim a few quid off elsewhere, or get the 32gb version for the same price, but I researched it plenty and I wasn't able to trust the relevant sellers based on feedback etc., nor did any offer free DHL delivery.

Moved to the Android forum (Don't think this is a Consumer Issue)
