The great dorset steam fair is on at the end of august. has anyone on here attended this show and if so can you tell me about your experience. I and a freind were thinking about booking a 4 day tour to the trip with Kavanagh travel and my friend was wondering would it be ok to bring children on a trip like this. Any advice appreciated.

A friend of mine has been there 20 times over the years. He was giving me advice about going there a few months ago. His advice was to stay away from the bus tour as you are tied to their times, the best way to go is by car and ferry. It will take 3 days to see the most of it as it's on 600-700 acres. What age are the children? You can also pitch a tent, you would need a marker like a flag to find your tent in the evening. It's a very big event and goes on until 1 in the morning. You won't be bored.

thanks for the reply. the children are aged 14 and 16. We thought that the bus tour would be a good idea as it is very keenly priced. Am I right in saying that its a long journey from the port to the fair?

I am only going by what he said, he has his own vintage machiney so I suppose he wants to see everything. You could still see plenty with the bus tour only that you would be restricted to their times. From Fishguard over 4 hours driving, from Hollyhead over 5.5 hours driving.
