Galaxy Navigation being undermined by Google Maps

I don't know if others are aware of this connection but in the past couple of weeks a Google Maps update is undermining the very useful Navigation program on the Samsung Galaxy. It happened on my S3, a friend's S2 and another's S3. I surmise it's happening on the S4 also. It was only resolved by ringing Samsung Ireland. The woman there was familiar with the issue and identified the solution to Navigation's malfunction as being to restore Google Maps to its default factory setting (a link we hadn't made). This we did and the problem was immediately solved.

However, since that Google Maps automatically updates and we have to uninstall each time. It seems somebody in Samsung hasn't told somebody in Google about the compatibility issue. Is there any solution to this because I don't fancy having to do this for the rest of my days with the Galaxy?

Turn off the auto-update for the Maps app in the Play Store. What's the problem with the new Navigation? Working fine on my Galaxy Nexus

What do you mean by undermine? You're aware that Google Maps and navigation merged in this update. Some features have changed though, some good and some bad. What exactly is it that you miss? You're not too clear in your post.
