    Nice interview. No mention about the high altitude house in Limerick though.

    Extrapolating here somewhat.

    He does 2 sessions a week during marathon (specific training, i assume): A long run and a very long interval sessions.

    Im guessing the long run is normally fast (for him to categorise it as a session.)

    He seems to use many other races to support this specific training. Again a guess would be: many 10ks far from a target marathon (and a few closer). He seems to complete a few marathons too and im guessing some of the minor ones might fit into the category (fast long run) as one of his two weekly big sessions.

    He seems to have molded his love of racing to fit into a modern marathon training regime: using a fundamental period with shorter races for aerobic power gains and a specific period to extend that aerobic power with long, to very long, intervals and fast long runs some of which are actual marathons.
    As the target race nears, the sessions get more specific: the intervals get longer and slower (to develop "speed endurance" for the marathon) and the fast long runs get faster (again becoming more specific to the event i.e running fast for the lenght it takes to run the target marathon).

    His advice that one should have run for the same lenght of time as the predicted marathon time at least 6-7 times before a target marathon is interesting, but i guess that number may drop for runners where the predicted time is higher.

    Sergiu would have over raced in the past and this was more down to his love of racing and chasing a few quid.
    He was coached by John Downes when he ran his marathon pb.
    He is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and a really tough racer.
    I hope he runs very well in the world champs.
