Hi everyone, I'm new here and have a question I'm looking for advice on.

I'm starting my final year of a masters degree in design engineering in September and we have to choose an individual design project (this can be anything). One of my ideas has been to design an inclusive transportation system for bikes, snowboards, ski's and possibly surfboards. As far as I know you have to buy all these things separately to attach to roof bars or the rear of the car, which can be fairly expensive! I'm just wanting to gauge thoughts from people if you think this is something worthwhile or even needed.

Thanks for any advice in advance :)

i would say those sports as quite far apart and there wouldnt be a lot of people require a multifunction rack

especially as i would imagine the price would be considerably higher!

Good idea....am sure cross braces with multiple attachments/arms will work nicely. Popular product if it works and is priced competetivley.

One piece of advice...try and design it so it works on one side of the cars roof rails, leaving the other side free for a long slim roof box...

The holy grail of all Combi car owners!!!

a simple one: design a roof rack that holds the bike lying horizontally, to save people smacking the bikes going through tunnels, under bridges..

How many irish people would drive skiing or snowboarding? Surfboards are like kayaks - stack 'em and strap' em. No carrier required.

I don't think product would work or be viable in irish market.

What about a carrier that loads vertically along side of car, then slides on rails into a horizontal position on roof securing the bikes?
