Scrap Value

Just looking for a bit of advice here, looking at getting a new car, the one I currently have is a 1997 Ford Fiesta 1.3 with 48000 miles on the clock, problem is i have a small crack in the windscreen and it leaks oil very slowly so every couple of months it needs a litre thrown in to it.

I'm wondering what the ballpark figure people think I could get is by selling it to a scrapping place as even though it has very low mileage and is a great car overall, I can't see anyone willing to pay anything for it with the windscreen cracked and the oil slowly leaking, and it's not worth my money paying to have it fixed up.

200-250 euro if you are lucky;)

Well I only paid 600 for the car and I have it the last year and a half so for a 1st car it served its purpose and I'd be happy with €200 :)

Head to a scrapyard and see what theyre looking for.
Then Pop her up on donedeal for 350.
If someone offers less than the scrapyard then go with that offer.

Those cars only have 5 digits on the display. Considering the age of the car and the condition of the engine, theres a good chance there is 148000 miles on it

Stick her up on a few sales sites with pics and an honest description. Go with best offer.

Nope, was sold to me by my Dad's good friend, his dad used it once in a blue moon to drive to the shop for milk and other small errands. Car definitely only has 48000miles on it. If it hadn't come from such a trustworthy source id believe you.

Thanks everyone, didn't consider sticking it up on any sites because I wouldn't put it up without being honest and didn't think anyone would consider even buying a car with a cracked windscreen regardless of how small the crack. Will post it up and see how it goes though :-)

Oil leak is very minor and could be a simple fix such as an o'ring or a leaking oil filter or sump bung. A litre every couple of months into a '97 would be about average. A new windscreen would be 150 euro or free if insured.

Why don't you NCT it, if it doesn't already have one. You should get your 600 for it with a cert.

Better off actually asking around, I know a yard that actively buys them in all the time
