    Hi,

Just a question, regarding this TV, a Finlux 40" Smart TV, with UK Freeview HD from Amazon.

Here it is on Finlux own direct marketing site.

It's a lotta TV for relatively small price, including a WiFi Dongle, and a PVR facility, to your own USB HD, DLNA, 100Hz refresh, 4 HDMI, etc, etc.

I checked with Finlux by e-mail, and after a delay they got back saying this:
    Hi Xyyyy,

Thanks for your email - I'm really sorry for the delay in responding to you.

Our TVs are for manufacture and delivery to UK addresses only, so we would be unable to deliver to the Republic of Ireland.

    Kind Regards,

    Ayyyxxx

Now, I think they are not telling the full truth, as according to most reports, UK Freeview HD, being DVB-T2 and MHEG-4, should be compatible with Saorview???

Can anyone confirm if the particular TV is compatible with Irish DTT [Saorview]

and could I also possibly receive UK Freeview from NI, as I live in North Westmeath, not far from the border.

I would buy this, if anyone can confirm Saorview compatibility....

and have it delivered to Deliverme in NI, for free from Amazon, and for €22 to me from Deliverme??

I would welcome comments, and if anyone actually got one, I would love to hear from you.

    Thanks in Advance.

UK Freeview HD is not fully compatible with Saorview. In general you can watch Soarview on Freeview HD equipment but there are irritations such as the channels in the 800s, clock being stuck on GMT all year round, and DVB text not working. iPlayer won't work in Ireland either.

Looking at the manual it would appear that country selection is possible, though it does not say if Ireland is available, but clearly they are not for manufactured for the UK only. Someone should also tell Finlux that there is no such thing as analogue teletext (page 36). All teletext is digital.

I guess it will work but you may have the issues I mentioned above.

    Thanks very much....

those would be minor irritations. ..

is there something about text being upgraded. ..mheg 5 thought I saw that somewhere....

but it wouldn't matter...dunno when I have last used text.

    Thanks again...

    Thanks again....you read the manual??

There may be a way around the iPlayer...router smart dns setting.... or tunlr....

and there are dlna and hdmi options to connect Galaxy S3 or Laptop with Hola unblocker running.

In general what us your opinion of the TV....it also includes that wifi dongle!!

There seems to be a lot for the money...and there is free UK delivery on Amazon to Deliverme, so I just need to add €23.....

Saw this TV last week myself and emailed Finlux, the reply I got was

"Thanks for getting in touch – unfortunately our TVs are made specifically for Freeview and Freeview HD areas and not Soarview and use in ROI. Sorry".

Now that doesn't mean it wouldn't work of course, but I bet they are just covering themselves in that its a UK TV and not one made for another country.

It's available here. There are different country settings.

Yeah.... they certainly don't want custom from here!!

But, what do you think of the telly??

I have actually gone off these Smart TV....in favour of the Android Mini PC...gives so much more and I have a suitable HD TV already, with HDMI port....it's just which one....

the latest one's are quad core with 2G memory and 8G ROM.....Android 4.2, and 32G SD slot.

So much more for so little..... around €80/€90..

Would you not be wiser to buy a Sony or a Samsung, for the same kind of money, which would be fully compatible with Saorview?
