Hi all. Im not sure if this is right forum so mods feel feel to move . I recently bought an avensis. Grand car . It seems to have had an impact on passenger side as doors etc have been resprayed and a few probs with trims coing loose but my major worry is trying to put child seats in the back. . When the belt is extened to go around the car seat to be clipped in if it retracts even a little bit it wont extend again unless i let the whole belt retract fully and pull it out in one continous movement. Pure torture putting seats in and out . But my concern is that if the belts were used in a crash that the seat belt tensioners might be damaged . Will bring it back to dealer but looking for info so i dont get fobbed off. Hope i have explained the issue , of not feel free to ask me to clarify. Thanks

My car has seat belts in the back designed to do exactly this. If I pull them out all the way, it will retract but not come out again unless I let it retract all the way first. Mine are actually designed to do this tho and have labels attached. It can be a pain at first, but you get used to it quick enough and the kids can't mess with the seatbelts.

Not driving an Avensis tho, so not sure if your model would have the same design.

It's not unusual for rear seatbelts to function that way, particularly lap belts. That said, I'd check the owner's manual to see what it says about this. Also, I don't think pyrotechnic pretensioners are fitted to rear seatbelts in most cars. Again your owner's manual would clarify this.

I have an 08 avensis and the rear seat belts also do the same thing. Its a pure disaster putting the child seats in.
