Wall in front of terraced house - need PP?

    Hi,
    I hope someone here might be able to help me. I live with my family in a terraced house with bins just at the house entrance which we never liked. So we decided to build a freestanding L-shaped capped brick wall along the boundary line with our neighbors (but still on our drive way, so no sharing). It's 2 meters long and 1.2 meters high. Now the neighour says he doesn't like it and we might get in trouble with local authorities, albeit the builder said no problem, no need for planning permission. Now I wonder, really? Any smart suggestions?

    From what you describe it would appear that the wall would be exempted development. It falls under class 5 of the exemptions here

    Muffler, thanks for the reference. The only concern is the following phrase: "The construction or erection of any wall or fence, other than a fence of sheet metal, or a wall or fence within or bounding the curtilage of a house." Does it mean if it's close to neighbor's house it's not exempted?

    Where did you see this?

    Its not in Class 5.

    I flew quickly through the pages and didn't notice there are more than one section with classes. Since I couldn't find your class 5 I went through some other classes and found the aforementioned expression. Anyway, thank you for responding I really appreciate it. BTW my wall is somewhat higher than 1.2m after all (long story) so will have to remove few bricks. Tomorrow, armed with the referred legislation I'll visit my local council, to have it black on white and then will knock on neighbor's door for a...chat

    When you click on the link it will take you to a list of exemptions under Schedule 2 of the 2001 regs which are current regs applicable for exempted development. Depending on your internet speed it may take 10 or 20 seconds for the page to load to that point but it will settle in at class 1 and if you scroll down a little you will easily find class 5.

    Im not sure if you need to visit the planning office as the document I linked to is "the law"...scroll to the very top of the document and you will see what I mean :)
