Organ Donation - Opt out system on the way?

So Minister Reilly is asking different groups what they think of introducing an 'opt out' system as opposed to the opt-in system we have now.

“Given the scarcity of organs available in Ireland for transplantation, it is important that as a society we do all we can to increase the number of organs available for transplantation,” said Minister James Reilly. “A critical part of this is to build on the current positive attitude towards organ donation.”

He also said the following: "Pre-empting issues about consent, Reilly said that in practice, donation would not proceed if the next of kin of the deceased person objected."

Personally I think it's a great proposal and those with any issue with it simply have to tick a box so I don't see why many should be opposed to it.

It's a remarkably simple yet selfless act to be an organ donor and it can save lives.

It would be a shame if existing licence holders weren't included in the proposal.

Any have any thoughts on the proposal or objections to it?

I dont think the organs are self aware :pac:

On a serious note, i think its a great idea. It doesnt make sense to be dead with organs rotting away. I want my organs used, with the exception of my eyes!
